You will be in the lab, not just analysing logs. \nWhat You’ll Do\nSensor fusion & navigation\nWork with inertial sensors inside real navigation and sensor fusion stacks.\n\nApply concepts from inertial navigation, SLAM, state estimation, and filtering (EKF / UKF).\n\nDevelop intuition for what defines a high-quality inertial sensor, including noise, bias, bandwidth, dynamic range, latency, and synchronisation.\n\nHands-on testing & calibration\nPerform inertial testing and calibration using industry-standard equipment (e.g. rate tables, shakers, multi-axis platforms).\n\nApply and refine calibration procedures covering bias, scale factor, misalignment, temperature effects, and dynamics.\n\nUnderstand how calibration assumptions affect downstream fusion performance.\n\nMathematics, data & analysis\nWork comfortably with linear algebra, probability, estimation theory, and coordinate frames.\n\nAnalyse large real-world inertial datasets and understand how errors propagate through navigation stacks.\n\nIdentify when software is compensating for hardware shortcomings.\n\nCoding & implementation\nWrite high-quality code in:\nC (performance-critical or embedded-adjacent work),\n\nPython (analysis, tooling, prototyping).\n\nBuild self-sufficient pipelines for data ingestion, processing, and visualisation.\n\nProduce clear plots that explain behaviour and failure modes.\n\nSystems-level work \nWork with sensors mounted on real platforms (stationary setups, robots, motion systems). \n\nUnderstand how mounting, timing, and synchronisation affect performance. \n\nBridge hardware realities with software abstractions. \n\nHardware-first mindset \nUse sensor fusion to expose hardware weaknesses, not hide them.\n\nBe comfortable saying: “This should be fixed in hardware.” \n\nProvide clear, quantitative feedback to hardware teams on which specs matter.\n\nRequired Background\nYou bring:\nExperience with sensor fusion, inertial navigation, SLAM, or robotics.\n\nHands-on experience using inertial sensors in real systems.\n\nComfort with inertial testing and calibration (or strong ability to learn quickly).\n\nStrong mathematical foundations.\n\nExcellent coding skills in C and Python.\n\nExperience handling large datasets and coordinate transformations.\n\nInterest in navigation, autonomy, and real-world systems.\n\nWho This Role Is For\nThis role is for someone who:\nEnjoys working across hardware and software.\n\nIs comfortable with test equipment, fixtures, and calibration procedures.\n\nWants to understand inertial sensors at a deep, physical level.\n\nIs frustrated by overly complex fusion stacks compensating for weak sensors.\n\nWants to help create inertial hardware that software engineers love.\n\nWhat This Role Is Not\nThis is not:\na purely software or simulation role,\n\na theoretical estimation research position,\n\na job detached from physical testing.\n\nYou will be in the lab.\nWhat Success Looks Like\nAfter 6-12 months:\nZPM understands inertial performance from silicon to system.\n\nCalibration procedures are robust, repeatable, and trusted.\n\nHardware teams receive clear guidance on what improves navigation performance.\n\nFusion stacks are simpler because the hardware is better.\n\nDemos clearly show why ZPM inertial sensors are different.\n\nWorking with us\nCompensation: Our framework is built on fairness and transparency, with regular reviews to reflect growth and performance. \n\nBenefits: Share options, pension, and private medical insurance. \n\nCulture: A deep-tech rocketship backed by leading investors. We’re building breakthrough technology with real commercial impact. Pace is high. Standards are higher.\n\nZero Point Motion is determined to foster belonging and empowerment at work. We are committed to providing a work environment where there’s a zero-tolerance approach to discrimination, and everyone is treated with respect. Equity, diversity and inclusion are central to our mission, and we strongly encourage candidates of all different backgrounds and identities to apply.
