SDE - Intern

We are looking for a motivated SDE Intern to join our engineering team and contribute to the development of scalable, reliable, and maintainable software applications. The role will provide hands-on exposure to backend development, API development, databases, testing, debugging, and modern software engineering practices. The ideal candidate should have a strong foundation in Node.js, OOP, MongoDB, and software development fundamentals, along with a curiosity to learn and effectively leverage AI-assisted development tools.

Responsibilities:

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand project requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions.
• Assist in the design, development, and implementation of APIs and software components using Node.js and related frameworks.
• Develop and maintain new features and application components using clean, modular, reusable, and maintainable code.
• Follow established coding standards, design patterns, and software development best practices.
• Write thorough unit tests for newly developed code and contribute to maintaining overall application quality.
• Participate actively in code reviews, incorporating feedback and ensuring simplicity, readability, and quality of implementation.
• Troubleshoot, debug, and resolve application issues with guidance from senior engineers.
• Work with databases, particularly MongoDB, including basic database modeling and data operations.
• Use developer tools such as Git, Postman, Chrome DevTools, and IDEs effectively during development and debugging.
• Leverage AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, or similar tools to improve development efficiency while maintaining code quality and understanding.
• Contribute to technical documentation and follow engineering processes to ensure maintainable and scalable solutions.

Requirements:

• 0-1 years of experience in software development, internships, academic projects, or equivalent hands-on experience.
• Basic to intermediate experience with Node.js and frameworks such as Express.js or NestJS.
• Understanding of database modeling and hands-on exposure to MongoDB.
• Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) concepts.
• Familiarity with REST APIs and basic backend development concepts.
• Proficiency with developer tools such as Git, Postman, Chrome DevTools, and VS Code/other IDEs.
• Ability to write clean, modular, reusable, and maintainable code.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, debugging, and logical reasoning skills.
• Ability to effectively use AI coding tools such as GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT, Cursor, etc., as development productivity tools.
• Strong communication skills and a collaborative, team-first mindset.
• High ownership, willingness to learn, and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong programming fundamentals and a passion for software engineering.

• Ability to use AI tools thoughtfully to accelerate development rather than relying on them without understanding the underlying code.

Nice to Have:

• Hands-on experience with AWS, particularly deploying or monitoring Node.js applications using services such as EC2 ALB, S3 and CloudWatch
• Basic experience with Angular 2+ and component-based web UI development.
• Exposure to enterprise-grade software development, including scalable, secure, modular, and performant applications.
• Understanding of production environments, error handling, logging, monitoring, and application performance.
• Exposure to CI/CD, cloud deployment, or DevOps practices.
