You’ll work with our founder and creative team to translate the website’s visual direction and editorial needs into a functional platform.\n\nYour responsibilities:\n\n• Review the existing codebase and technical setup, identify gaps and recommend priorities.\n\n• Build responsive interfaces, pages and reusable frontend components.\n\n• Develop backend functionality, APIs and database structures.\n\n• Connect the frontend to the backend and manage how content is stored, retrieved and updated.\n\n• Build or integrate a content management workflow for artist profiles, articles and project pages.\n\n• Implement authentication, permissions and form validation where required.\n\n• Test functionality, accessibility, performance and security.\n\n• Support deployment, troubleshoot issues and document the setup so other developers can maintain it.\n\nOur immediate milestone is a working website with connected frontend and backend functionality and a straightforward publishing process for our editorial team.\n\nThis is an unpaid volunteer opportunity, carried out remotely. We envisage approximately 20 hours per week, agreed around your availability, with an initial three-month commitment.\n\n You have practical full-stack development experience and can demonstrate code you have personally written.\n\nTechnical skills:\n\n• Frontend: HTML, CSS, JavaScript or TypeScript, and a framework such as React, Next.js or Vue.\n\n• Backend: experience with a server-side stack such as Node.js/Express, Python/Django/FastAPI or PHP/Laravel.\n\n• Databases: experience designing and querying relational databases such as PostgreSQL or MySQL; familiarity with other database systems is welcome.\n\n• APIs: experience building and integrating APIs, handling requests, validation and errors.\n\n• Version control: Git and collaborative development through GitHub or an equivalent platform.\n\n• Testing and debugging: ability to investigate issues across the frontend, backend and database.\n\n• Deployment: familiarity with hosting, environment variables and production configuration.\n\n• Security: understanding of authentication, access controls and safe handling of sensitive information.\n\nYou do not need experience with every technology listed. We need someone comfortable working across both frontend and backend who can explain their choices and adapt to the existing setup.\n\nYou can collaborate in English with designers and nontechnical colleagues, work through detailed feedback and leave clear documentation.\n\nPlease apply with your CV or background summary, GitHub or code samples, and two or three relevant projects.
