You wait. You call again. In every other part of your life, you book in seconds. In healthcare, you’re blocked. \nWe’re here to give power to the patient. \nFor nearly 20 years, we’ve built the leading healthcare marketplace - helping tens of millions of people find and book the care they need. Now, we’re going further: building our infrastructure beyond Zocdoc’s marketplace to power access to care wherever patients search, from provider websites and insurance directories to search engines, AI platforms, and more.\nHealthcare still lacks something every other major consumer industry takes for granted: a seamless way to go from seeking to getting. We don’t want to own the front door to care; there isn't one. We want to make sure all of those doors open when patients are knocking.\nFixing healthcare starts with fixing access to it. And we're still just getting started.\nYour Impact on our Mission:\nZocdoc is looking for a Senior Site Reliability Engineer to make our distributed production systems more observable, reliable, and safe to change. Our platform connects patients, providers, and many interconnected services and integrations, so reliability depends on understanding the full path of a request-not just whether an individual service is running.\nYou’ll help build the observability foundations, automation, and engineering practices that allow Zocdoc to move quickly without sacrificing safety. You’ll work across cloud infrastructure, microservices, APIs, and integration points in AWS, partnering closely with product engineering teams to identify risks, improve operational visibility, and make the right behavior easier to build and operate.\nYou’ll enjoy this role if you are…\nPassionate about observability and believe that teams can’t reliably operate what they can’t see\nExperienced in integration-rich environments where APIs, third-party dependencies, asynchronous workflows, and distributed services create complex failure modes\nExcited by the challenge of helping a fast-moving engineering organization ship quickly while keeping systems safe, diagnosable, and resilient\nMotivated to turn operational knowledge into reusable platforms, automation, telemetry standards, and paved paths for engineering teams\nComfortable leading or supporting incident response, communicating clearly under pressure, and using blameless post-mortems to drive meaningful improvements\nCurious about how systems behave in production and willing to investigate across application code, infrastructure, networking, and external dependencies\nCollaborative, pragmatic, and able to build trust with engineers across numerous product development teams\nAutonomous, individually accountable, and always looking for ways to reduce toil and improve the developer and operator experience\nYour day to day is…\nDesigning, building, and operating observability for distributed services and integrations, including metrics, logs, traces, dashboards, alerts, service-level indicators, and service-level objectives\nImproving end-to-end visibility across critical patient and provider workflows, including identifying gaps in instrumentation and making dependency health and integration failures easier to understand\nCreating reliable, repeatable tooling and infrastructure through infrastructure as code, automation, CI/CD, and self-service patterns\nPartnering with product engineering teams on reliability, scaling, performance, capacity, and failure-mode analysis for services and integrations\nHelping teams establish actionable alerts and operational ownership so that on-call signals are timely, meaningful, and connected to a clear response path\nParticipating in the on-call rotation and incident response process, including serving as an incident commander when appropriate and driving follow-up work through completion\nAnalyzing and tuning systems, code, cloud resources, and networking for resilience, performance, and efficient operation\nStrengthening deployment and change-management practices so teams can release frequently with appropriate safeguards, rollback paths, and feedback loops\nContributing to platform standards and reusable patterns for containerized workloads, service communication, secrets, routing, and production readiness\nYou’ll be successful in this role if you have…\n5+ years of experience supporting consumer-facing web applications, APIs, or distributed production environments in a Site Reliability Engineering, Production Engineering, Platform Engineering, or closely related role\n2+ years of on-call experience in a 24/7 cloud-based production environment, with a track record of participating in incident response and delivering durable remediation\nDeep experience operating systems with many integrations, services, dependencies, or external APIs, and a practical understanding of how those relationships affect reliability\nDemonstrated experience building or improving observability practices, including metrics, structured logging, distributed tracing, dashboards, alerting, SLIs, SLOs, and error budgets\n2+ years of experience managing and supporting modern cloud infrastructure, preferably AWS, along with technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or similar container platforms\nProficiency in Python, Go, Ruby, Java, or a comparable language, and the ability to read and troubleshoot application code\nExperience with infrastructure as code and automated delivery practices, such as Terraform, OpenTofu, CloudFormation, GitHub Actions, GitOps, or equivalent tools\nExperience with edge and service networking technologies such as load balancers, reverse proxies, ingress controllers, web application firewalls, routing, rate limiting, or circuit breaking\nA deep understanding of protocols and foundational networking concepts such as TCP/IP, HTTP/HTTPS, TLS, DNS, and NTP\nStrong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain operational risk, incident findings, and technical tradeoffs to both engineers and partners\nExperience working with sensitive data, privacy or compliance requirements, or regulated production environments is a plus, but not required.\nBenefits:\nFlexible work environment based in NYC\nUnlimited Vacation \n100% paid employee health benefit options (including medical, dental, and vision)\n401(k) with employer funded match\nCorporate wellness program with Wellhub\nSabbatical leave (for employees with 5+ years of service)\nCompetitive paid parental leave and fertility/family planning reimbursement\nCell phone reimbursement\nEmployee Resource Groups and ZocClubs to promote shared community and belonging\nZocdoc is committed to fair and equitable compensation practices. Salary ranges are determined through alignment with market data. Base salary offered is determined by a number of factors including the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and skills. Certain positions are also eligible for variable pay and/or equity; your recruiter will discuss the full compensation package details.\nNYC Base Salary Range\n$180,000—$220,000 USD\nAbout us\n Zocdoc is the country’s leading digital health marketplace that helps patients easily find and book the care they need. Each month, millions of patients use our free service to find nearby, in-network providers, compare choices based on verified patient reviews, and instantly book in-person or video visits online. Providers participate in Zocdoc’s Marketplace to reach new patients to grow their practice, fill their last-minute openings, and deliver a better healthcare experience.
