You'll drive architectural decisions, champion engineering best practices, and build solutions that scale with our product and organization.\nJob Description\nAs a Staff Data Engineer at Zocks, you'll drive the technical design, development, and evolution of our data infrastructure, balancing immediate product needs with long-term reliability, performance, and scalability.\nYou'll work with technologies including ClickHouse, Dagster, Airbyte, Apache Superset, AWS, and Python, taking ownership of complex engineering challenges across our data ecosystem.\nWorking closely with our Head of Data, Data Analysts, Platform Engineers, and Software Engineers building enterprise solutions, you'll translate data requirements into robust technical solutions.\nWe're looking for someone who combines deep hands-on engineering expertise with strong architectural thinking, challenges existing approaches, and can drive complex technical initiatives from initial design through production.\nWhat You'll Own\nShape and evolve our data architecture\nDrive technical decisions around data architecture, pipeline design, orchestration, storage, and processing.\nOwn the evolution of production data pipelines, improving their reliability, performance, scalability, and maintainability.\nPlay a key technical role in designing and implementing new data lake solutions, including architectural choices and implementation.\nDesign and implement new data pipelines, integrations, and data processing capabilities to support our product.\nEvaluate technologies and architectural approaches, making pragmatic trade-offs between short-term delivery and long-term scalability.\nBuild reliable, production-grade data systems\nDevelop and advance automated data quality checks, monitoring, and alerting capabilities.\nDefine and champion engineering best practices for data pipeline testing, observability, documentation, and reliability.\nProactively identify and address performance bottlenecks, data inconsistencies, and architectural limitations.\nImprove data processing and storage efficiency to support growing data volumes and complex use cases.\nTake end-to-end ownership of critical data engineering solutions, from design and implementation to production operation.\nDrive technical collaboration and engineering standards\nPartner with the Head of Data to shape technical priorities and the long-term evolution of our data engineering capabilities.\nWork closely with Data Analysts to understand data requirements and ensure reliable, accessible data for analytics and reporting.\nCollaborate with Platform Engineering and DevOps on cloud infrastructure, deployment, monitoring, and operational reliability.\nPartner with Software Engineering teams to integrate new data sources and support enterprise product requirements.\nLead technical discussions, challenge assumptions, and help teams make well-informed architectural decisions.\nShare technical knowledge, promote reusable patterns, and champion engineering standards across the Data team.\nRequired Skills and Qualifications\n7+ years of hands-on experience in Data Engineering or closely related software engineering disciplines, including experience owning complex production data systems.\nExpert-level Python and SQL skills, with a strong track record of designing and building reliable, scalable data pipelines.\nDeep understanding of ETL/ELT, data modeling, pipeline orchestration, and modern data architectures.\nStrong hands-on experience with cloud-based data infrastructure, preferably AWS.\nProven experience making architectural decisions and leading complex technical initiatives from design through production.\nSolid understanding of data warehousing, data storage, distributed data processing, and performance optimization.\nExperience with engineering practices around data quality, monitoring, testing, and operational reliability.\nAbility to independently identify technical challenges, evaluate trade-offs, and drive solutions without relying on predefined requirements.\nExperience collaborating across Data, Infrastructure, and Software Engineering teams, with the ability to influence technical decisions beyond your immediate area.\nExcellent English communication skills;
