This role is responsible for timely unpacking, verification, and routing of specimens to appropriate laboratory departments, accurate data entry into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), and appropriate handling, storage, and/or shipment of specimens. The position maintains clean, organized work areas and completes required logs and documentation to support compliance and traceability. The role also supports inventory activities, secondary equipment operation, and other lab operations tasks as assigned, executing responsibilities with minimal to no oversight.\nJob Duties\nSpecimen receiving & accessioning\no Verify patient/specimen identifiers, labeling, and test orders\no Log/accession specimens in the LIS; route specimens appropriately\no Assess specimen acceptability and document issues per policy\nSpecimen processing & preparation\no Aliquot, concentrate, and preserve specimens per SOP (as applicable)\no Prepare slides (wet mounts, stained smears as trained/authorized)\no Set up kits/reagents and prepare materials for technologists\nTesting support (within scope)\no Assist with non-waived testing steps only as permitted by training/licensure\no Perform waived/CLIA-waived tasks if authorized and competency-documented\no Communicate urgent workflow needs to the technologist/supervisor\nQuality & documentation\no Complete temperature logs (refrigerators/freezers/incubators as assigned)\no Maintain lot-to-lot, expiration checks, reagent labeling, and QC records as assigned\no Follow Good Documentation Practices and correct recordkeeping\nEquipment & area maintenance\no Clean/disinfected benches and shared equipment per schedule\no Perform basic maintenance checks (centrifuges, microscopes, hoods-per SOP)\no Report malfunctions; coordinate service requests as directed\nInventory & supplies\no Stock and rotate supplies (FIFO), track par levels, and submit reorders\no Maintain collection kits/transport media and ensure proper storage conditions\nSafety, compliance, and waste\no Follow PPE and biosafety practices; manage biohazard/sharps disposal\no Support CAP/CLIA/OSHA readiness: organization, labeling, and audit support\no Participate in incident reporting (spills, exposures, nonconformances)\nCommunication & customer support\nCoordinate with couriers/phlebotomy/clinics for specimen issues\nAnswer basic status questions and route clinical questions appropriately\nSupport training of new staff on workflow and safety basics\nCommon Qualifications (often expected)\nHigh school diploma/GED (associate degree preferred)\nLab experience or medical lab assistant/phlebotomy background preferred\nComfortable with PPE, biohazard handling, and detailed documentation\nEducation/Experience:\nMinimum Education Requirement: High School Diploma or equivalent\n1+ years in a clinical laboratory setting preferred\n1-2 years of data entry experience preferred\nMedical background or experience with laboratory testing terminology (or strong aptitude to learn terminology) preferred\nTechnical Skills Required:\nStrong attention to detail; high accuracy in labeling and data entry\nExcellent data entry and typing skills\nStrong computer skills; ability to work within a Windows environment\nProficiency in Microsoft platforms (Teams, Outlook, Word, etc.)\nTeam-oriented with strong collaboration skills\nOrganizational and time management skills; ability to handle multiple tasks/systems\nEffective verbal and written communication, including listening skills\nAbility to work productively and independently in a fast-paced environment with target productivity rates\nAbility to complete tasks with minimal supervision\nFluency in English\nPhysical Position Requirements:\nAbility to lift up to 50 pounds\nAbility to bend, kneel, stoop, and crouch\nAbility to walk, sit, or stand for extended periods\nAbility to use tools such as boxcutters\nAbility to wear PPE for extended periods of time\nFlexible hours and overtime may be required\nFull timeRegularColleagueAny unsolicited resumes sent to Zoetis from a third party, such as an Agency recruiter, including unsolicited resumes sent to a Zoetis mailing address, fax machine or email address, directly to Zoetis employees, or to Zoetis resume database will be considered Zoetis property.
