But it's our unique opportunity to impact people's lives that makes ZOLL the ideal place to build your career.\nJob Summary\nThe Mechanical Engineering Co-op supports the design, development, and testing of ZOLL’s life-saving medical devices merging mechanical engineering and softgoods design and development. Responsibilities may include part design, troubleshooting, documentation, cross-functional support, softgoods development, and research projects in a regulated environment. The role requires creativity and application of engineering principles to solve technical challenges.\nEssential Functions\nEmploys the appropriate level of engineering rigor to designs ensuring product robustness, reliability, and patient safety.\nDesigns parts with an understanding of best practices, material selection, tooling, and troubleshooting. \nUtilize 3D Computer Aided Design (CAD) software with a basic understanding of modeling techniques.\nDesigns and fabricates custom test fixtures. \nCreates 2D engineering drawings per ASME Y14.5 standards.\nConducts tolerance analysis of mechanical assemblies.\nSupports advanced development technical feasibility studies for future generation products.\nConducts product failure investigations and root cause analysis.\nUses interpersonal skills to coordinate with internal and external teams effectively.\nAssists with design tasks including concepts, patterning, prototyping, fitting and testing. \nPrototypes construction and sewing for new garment concepts, and mock-ups.\nCatalogs samples for the R&D Softgoods Material Library and Sample Tracker.\nFollows the garment design process while collaborating with mechanical engineering, human factors, and other cross-functional teams.\nAssists with fit sessions and testing protocols to ensure garment-related metrics are appropriately collected.\nUtilizes an in-depth knowledge of technical textiles including knits, wovens, nonwovens, and trims and fasteners to establish sources. \nRequired/Preferred Education and Experience\nThis position requires a high school diploma and current enrollment in an accredited college or university, with studies focused on Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Fashion Design, Apparel Design, Textile Engineering, or Industrial Design.\n Knowledge, Skills and Abilities\nUnderstanding and practical working knowledge of various manufacturing processes and fabrication methods and their associated limitations, benefits and tradeoffs.\nProficient utilizing PLM/PDM (Windchill preferred).\nProficient utilizing SolidWorks and/or Creo.\nSewing with industrial machinery including single needle and overlock.\nDrafting/draping and constructing technically sophisticated garments.\nPatternmaking by hand and/or digital such as Optitex.\nAdobe Illustrator - technical design and illustration.\nGeneral experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, etc.).\nMust have excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.\nPhysical Demands\nThe physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.\n· Standing - Occasionally\n· Walking - Occasionally\n· Sitting - Constantly\n· Talking - Occasionally\n· Hearing - Occasionally\n· Repetitive Motions - Frequently\nZOLL is a fast-growing company that operates in more than 140 countries around the world.
