As Manager, Software Engineering for the AI Platform team, you will lead the team building the agentic platform that powers all of it: the shared runtime, orchestration, tooling, context, and safety layers that every Zuora AI agent and experience is built on. You will set the technical direction for how agents reason over live account, contract, invoice, payment, and accounting data; how they act safely through tools and protocols such as MCP; and how we evaluate, observe, and govern them so finance teams can trust them with revenue. This is a hands-on role: you will spend at least 50% of your time writing, reviewing, and shipping code alongside the team while you hire and grow a team of 5 to 8 engineers. The team releases weekly, so you will keep that pace without trading away quality or safety. You will also partner closely with Product and the application engineering teams building on the platform, and turn fast-moving AI capabilities into reliable, enterprise-grade software. Within 6 to 12 months, you will have shipped a platform that lets Zuora teams launch new agents quickly and confidently, established the standards for quality, security, and auditability of AI at Zuora, and built a team known for shipping.\nIn this role, you will:\nWrite code at least 50% of your time: design, build, and review core platform components, and personally own critical parts of the system.\nOwn the architecture and roadmap for Zuora’s agentic platform, including agent runtime and orchestration, tool and MCP integration, memory and context retrieval, and model access across providers.\nBuild the evaluation, observability, and guardrail foundations (testing harnesses, tracing, cost and latency controls, permissions, audit trails) that make AI agents safe in core financial processes.\nMake the platform easy to build on, with clear APIs, SDKs, and patterns that let product teams ship agents into billing, collections, revenue, and implementation workflows.\nRun a weekly release cadence, keeping work in small, shippable increments backed by CI/CD, automated testing, and evaluation gates so the team ships fast and safely.\nHire, coach, and grow engineers; set clear expectations; and build a culture of ownership, rigor, and fast iteration.\nPartner with Product, Security, and Architecture to balance speed of innovation with reliability, compliance, and customer trust.\nAbout You\nYou may be a great fit if you:\nHave experience leading software engineers, typically 2+ years as a people manager or tech lead in B2B SaaS, with a strong hands-on engineering background. You still write production code and want a role where coding is at least half of the job.\nHave built and shipped production systems powered by LLMs - such as agents, tool-calling or RAG systems, or LLM evaluation and observability tooling.\nHave designed distributed, cloud-native platforms or services that other engineering teams build on, and care about developer experience, reliability, and scale.\nAre strong at coaching engineers, setting clear expectations, and making sound technical and delivery decisions in a fast-evolving technology space.\nHave worked on teams that ship weekly or faster, and know how to keep quality high through small releases, automated testing, and fast feedback loops.\nThrive in environments where priorities evolve and you balance long-term architecture with near-term delivery.\nBring a track record of delivering complex software on time, improving team velocity or quality, and growing engineers into senior roles.\nNice to have:\nExperience with billing, subscription, pricing, or quote-to-cash systems.\nExperience with agent frameworks and protocols (e.g., Model Context Protocol), multi-agent orchestration, or model gateway and routing layers.\nExperience applying AI in regulated or high-trust domains such as finance, where accuracy, explainability, and auditability matter.\nHands-on experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS) and modern service architecture.\nExperience partnering with Product on roadmap and discovery.\nAbout the Team\nThe AI Platform team is part of Product & Technology and builds the foundation behind Zuora AI - the agents, MCP capabilities, and AI experiences embedded across Zuora’s quote-to-cash platform.
