You will work closely with underwriters, data engineers, BI teams and technology stakeholders to turn business needs into secure, maintainable and scalable AI applications, primarily using Python-based AI, automation and analytics tooling. This role is ideal for a mid-level AI engineer who can work independently across the solution lifecycle, make sound technical decisions and guide use cases from discovery and prototyping through production and continuous improvement.\nYour role\nAs an AI Engineer, your main responsibilities will involve:\nOwning the end-to-end delivery of AI use cases that support underwriting and credit processes, from discovery and solution design through production rollout\nDesigning and implementing AI automation workflows that integrate models, business rules, data pipelines and human review\nDeveloping maintainable Python applications, reusable components, APIs and services using sound software engineering practices\nBuilding and evaluating LLM-based solutions, including prompt workflows, retrieval-augmented generation and appropriate guardrails\nStructuring, validating and transforming data for reliable AI workflows and integrating solutions with internal systems\nDefining technical approaches, estimating delivery effort and communicating trade-offs, risks and dependencies to stakeholders\nWorking with internal Data Lake, BI and analytics platforms, including Databricks or comparable environments\nApplying automated testing, code review, version control and CI/CD practices to improve solution quality and repeatability\nMonitoring solution performance, reliability, cost and business value, and driving continuous improvement based on evidence and user feedback\nContributing to engineering standards, documentation and knowledge sharing, and supporting less-experienced colleagues when needed\nYour Skills and Experience\nAs an AI Engineer, your skills and experience will ideally include:\nSeveral years of hands-on experience delivering AI, machine learning, analytics automation or data-driven software solutions in a professional environment\nStrong Python software development skills, including modular design, object-oriented programming, package management, error handling, logging and performance-conscious coding\nPractical experience building AI automation workflows and integrating AI capabilities into business processes or enterprise applications\nHands-on experience with LLMs and modern AI tooling, including evaluation, retrieval-augmented generation, prompt orchestration or agentic workflows\nExperience with data processing, validation and integration using Python and SQL\nExperience designing and developing REST APIs and services, for example with FastAPI\nWorking knowledge of Git, automated testing, code review, CI/CD, containers and cloud-based development environments\nAbility to translate ambiguous business problems into pragmatic technical designs and deliver solutions with limited supervision\nStrong stakeholder communication skills and confidence working directly with underwriters, business users, data teams and technology partners\nA pragmatic delivery mindset, with the judgement to balance speed, maintainability, security and business value\nNice to have\nGerman language skills (both written and spoken)\nPrior experience in insurance, finance, underwriting or risk domains\nExperience with Databricks or a comparable cloud data and analytics platform\nExperience with MLOps or LLMOps practices, model or prompt monitoring, observability and cost management\nKnowledge of responsible AI, data privacy, security and governance in a regulated environment\nExperience mentoring colleagues, leading technical workstreams or establishing reusable engineering standards\nWe offer\nCompensation for roles at Zurich depends on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific role, skill set, level of experience, and subject to applicable law.
