You will be asked to work smart and efficiently with Claude Code and similar tools as part of your day-to-day engineering workflow to accelerate delivery and improve code quality.\nA key part of the role is establishing strong evaluation practices to measure quality, reliability, and cost, while maintaining a high sense of ownership from design through deployment.\nYour role\nAs Senior AI Engineer, your main responsibilities will involve:\nDesign end-to-end agentic workflows (e.g., with LangGraph) to solve complex problems. \nTranslate business needs into structured, scalable AI solutions. \nBuild and compose reusable skills, tools, and agents. \nChoose the right approach (skill, tool, agent, workflow) for performance and maintainability. \nIntegrate multiple LLMs, optimizing cost, speed, and quality. \nImprove performance via prompt design, token use, and inference efficiency. \nDefine evaluations, metrics, and guardrails to ensure quality and reliability. \nStructure and validate data using typed schemas (e.g., Pydantic). \nImplement observability, logging, and debugging tools. \nLeverage AI assistants to accelerate development. \nCollaborate cross-functionally to deliver impactful AI solutions.\nYour skills and experience\nAs Senior AI Engineer, your skills and experience will ideally include:\n5+ years Python development with strong software engineering fundamentals\nHands-on experience building production systems with Large Language Models\nHigh ownership & proactive communication: Delivers assigned outcomes autonomously, keeping progress visible and proactively surfacing blockers, changes in approach, and trade-offs-seeking input early when needed\nProven experience with LangGraph or similar agentic frameworks (LangChain, other orchestration frameworks acceptable)\nStrong understanding of evaluation methodologies for LLM/agent quality (datasets, metrics, human review, regression testing)\nAbility to reason about when to build a skill vs tool vs agent vs workflow, with clear trade-offs\nProven ability to decompose complex, ambiguous business problems into scalable technical solutions, from high-level requirements to detailed design.\nNice to Have\nComfort using AI assistants (e.g., Claude Code) as part of the daily engineering workflow\nFamiliarity with LLM observability tools (Langfuse, LangSmith, etc.)\nBackground with vector databases and RAG patterns\nUnderstanding of cost optimisation and token accounting in LLM systems\nProduction experience with async Python patterns (asyncio, concurrent request handling)\nExperience with Azure deployment and cloud-native architectures\nKnowledge of evaluation frameworks and metrics for AI output quality\nWhy Join?\nWork on cutting-edge generative AI systems at scale, using cutting-edge AI assistants on your day to day\nCollaborate with a specialized AI team (Data Scientists, AI Engineers, ML Optimization specialists)\nBuild foundational patterns and frameworks that define how the organization approaches agentic AI\nWe offer\nCompensation for roles at Zurich depends on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific role, skill set, level of experience, and subject to applicable law.
