Canonical

Canonical is the company behind Ubuntu, the Linux distribution it has published since 2004 and which has become the most widely used operating system on public cloud instances. It earns revenue from support subscriptions, security maintenance of open source packages, and a set of infrastructure products including MicroK8s and Charmed Kubernetes for containers, MAAS for bare metal provisioning, OpenStack distributions and the Snap packaging system. The company was founded by the South African entrepreneur Mark Shuttleworth, who still owns it privately, is headquartered in London, and operates as a fully distributed organisation with staff in dozens of countries.
