Overview
The Allen Institute is a bioscience research organisation in Seattle founded by the Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen to run team science at a scale individual laboratories cannot sustain. Its divisions study the brain, cells, immunology and neural dynamics, and they release very large open atlases and datasets that machine learning researchers use as benchmarks for biological modelling. The institute deliberately publishes its data and tools openly rather than holding them for internal advantage.
