Overview
Covariant built robot foundation models that let industrial picking arms handle objects they had never seen during training. Its brain combined large scale imitation learning, reinforcement learning and vision language models with real warehouse deployments across Europe and North America. The company was founded by researchers from Berkeley and OpenAI, and its founders and much of the technical team later joined Amazon; its research on robot foundation models remains widely cited in embodied learning literature.
