Overview
Kyutai is a French non-profit artificial intelligence research laboratory founded in Paris in 2023 with roughly three hundred million euros of philanthropic funding from Xavier Niel, Rodolphe Saade and Eric Schmidt. It publishes its work openly, releasing model weights, training code and papers rather than commercialising them, and has concentrated on real-time speech and audio where it produced Moshi, the first full-duplex spoken conversation model that listens and talks at the same time. It also released the Hibiki speech translation system, the Helium language models and open speech tooling, positioning itself as a European counterweight to closed industrial research.
