Overview
Numenta is a research company that studies the neocortex and applies its principles to machine intelligence. Its thousand brains theory proposes that the cortex learns many parallel models of the world, and the company has published this research openly for two decades rather than commercialising it early. Numenta later applied the same work to running deep learning models far more efficiently on standard processors; its founder previously created the Palm handheld computer and the Redwood Neuroscience Institute.
