Overview
Torc Robotics is an American autonomous driving company founded in 2005 by a Virginia Tech team that competed in the DARPA Grand Challenge, and it was acquired by Daimler Truck in 2019. It develops self-driving software for long-haul freight trucks, working with a manufacturer that builds the vehicle rather than retrofitting third-party trucks, which gives it access to the redundant steering and braking systems autonomy actually requires. Headquartered in Blacksburg, Virginia with operations in Texas and New Mexico, it is targeting driverless freight operation on interstate routes in the American southwest.
