IT Interns

1. Role Overview

We are looking for an IT Hardware Support Intern to assist the IT Infrastructure team in providing day-to-day hardware and end-user support. The intern will gain hands-on experience in desktop/laptop support, hardware troubleshooting, IT asset management, device deployment, and basic IT infrastructure operations.

The role involves supporting users, maintaining IT assets, assisting with hardware incidents and requests, and ensuring IT equipment is properly configured, tracked, and maintained.

2. Key Responsibilities

A. Hardware & Desktop Support

• Provide Level 1 hardware support for desktops, laptops, monitors, printers, docking stations, and other IT peripherals.
• Perform basic troubleshooting of hardware issues such as:
  • Laptop/desktop boot issues
  • Display and monitor problems
  • Keyboard/mouse issues
  • Printer and scanner issues
  • LAN/Wi-Fi connectivity issues
  • Docking station and peripheral issues
• Assist in hardware replacement, upgrades, and preventive maintenance.
• Support installation and replacement of RAM, SSD/HDD, batteries, adapters, and other approved components.
• Perform basic hardware diagnostics and identify faulty components.

B. Laptop/Desktop Deployment

• Assist with new laptop/desktop provisioning and deployment.
• Configure systems according to standard IT build procedures.
• Assist with:
  • Windows installation/configuration
  • Device naming
  • Domain/Entra ID joining
  • Application installation
  • Security agent installation
  • Windows updates and patches
• Support users during device handover and initial setup.

C. IT Asset Management

• Maintain accurate records of laptops, desktops, monitors, peripherals, and other IT assets.
• Assist with asset tagging, inventory verification, asset movement, and asset handover.
• Update asset information in the ITSM/asset management tool.
• Support periodic Physical Asset Verification (PAV) activities.
• Assist in tracking assets issued to new joiners, transferred employees, and exit users.
• Report missing, damaged, or unallocated assets to the IT support team.

D. IT Service Desk / ITSM Support

• Log and update incidents and service requests in the ITSM tool.
• Follow up on assigned tickets and ensure timely resolution.
• Maintain proper ticket documentation, including troubleshooting performed and resolution details.
• Escalate issues to L2/L3 teams when required.
• Follow defined SLA and IT support procedures.

E. Network & Infrastructure Support

• Assist infrastructure engineers with basic troubleshooting of:
  • LAN connectivity
  • Wi-Fi connectivity
  • Network ports
  • Patch cords
  • IP configuration
  • Printers and shared peripherals
• Assist with basic physical checks of network equipment and IT rooms under supervision.
• Support IT infrastructure teams during device moves, office setup, and relocation activities.

F. Joiner, Mover & Leaver Support

• Assist with IT support activities for new joiners.
• Prepare laptops and peripherals based on approved onboarding requests.
• Support asset collection and verification during employee offboarding.
• Assist in updating asset records for employee transfers and movements.
• Ensure assets are properly reflected against the respective user/employee records.

G. Documentation & Reporting

• Maintain hardware troubleshooting guides and basic support documentation.
• Update inventory and asset trackers.
• Prepare basic daily/weekly reports on:
  • Open hardware tickets
  • Asset deployment
  • Pending hardware issues
  • Asset movements
  • Stock availability
• Maintain records of replaced or defective hardware.

3. Required Technical Skills

Must Have

• Basic knowledge of Windows operating systems.
• Understanding of computer hardware components.
• Basic laptop/desktop troubleshooting skills.
• Knowledge of networking fundamentals such as:
  • IP address
  • DNS
  • DHCP
  • LAN/Wi-Fi
  • Ping and basic connectivity troubleshooting
• Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office / Microsoft 365.
• Good understanding of IT hardware peripherals.
