About Aalo Atomics
Aalo Atomics is pioneering a new era in clean energy with factory-fabricated microreactors designed to deliver affordable, scalable, and reliable nuclear power. Our mission is to make nuclear energy globally accessible, starting with the Aalo-1, a 10 MWe reactor leveraging cutting-edge safety, modularity, and efficiency. Based in Austin, TX, we’re rapidly growing as we work to deploy the world’s first fleet of advanced microreactors. Join us and help revolutionize energy for a sustainable future.
About the role
Aalo Atomics isbuilding modular nuclear reactors to power the world's most demanding energy needs-from AI data centers to industrial sites. As aBuildandTestTechnician, you will be at the heart of turning designs into hardware. You will work hands-on with our engineering team to assemble, wire, integrate, andtestreactor subsystemsandsupporting infrastructure. This is a fast-paced, high-ownership role for someone who thrives in a hardware-rich environmentandtakes pride inbuilding things right the first time. You will move fluidly between thebuildfloorandtheteststand, helping bring prototypes to lifeandvalidating that they perform to spec. If you love working with your hands, solving problems on the fly, andbeing part of a team shipping serious hardware, this role is for you.
How You Will Contribute
- Assemble mechanical, electrical, andfluid subsystems from engineering drawings, work instructions, andschematics.
- Fabricate androute wiring harnesses, terminate connectors, andperform soldering andcrimping to workmanship standards (e.g., IPC-A-610 / J-STD-001).
- Install andintegrate sensors, instrumentation, actuators, andcontrol hardware onto testarticles andreactor subsystems.
- Set up andoperate teststands, including plumbing, electrical hookups, data acquisition, andinstrumentation calibration.
- Execute testprocedures, capture data, andclearly document results, anomalies, andas-built configurations.
- Troubleshoot mechanical andelectrical faults down to the component level anddrive issues to resolution alongside engineers.
- Use hand tools, power tools, andprecision measurement equipment (calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, multimeters) safely andaccurately.
- Maintain a clean, organized, andsafety-first work area, following all quality andsafety protocols.
- Provide feedback to design andmanufacturing engineers to improve assembly processes, tooling, andhardware manufacturability.
Qualifications
- Hands-on experience assembling andtesting complex electromechanical hardware in a prototype, R&D, aerospace, automotive, energy, or similar hard-tech environment.
- Strong hand tool proficiency-comfortable with wrenches, torque tools, drills, taps, andprecision measurement instruments.
- Solid electrical fundamentals: ability to read schematics andwiring diagrams, buildharnesses, terminate connectors, solder, crimp, andtroubleshoot circuits with a multimeter.
- Ability to read andinterpret mechanical drawings, GD&T, andassembly work instructions.
- Experience with testsetup andinstrumentation (sensors, thermocouples, pressure transducers, data acquisition systems) is highly desirable.
- Familiarity with fluid systems (pneumatic/hydraulic plumbing, fittings, leak checking) is a plus.
- Detail-oriented documentation habits andcomfort logging data andas-built configurations.
- Self-directed, adaptable, andable to prioritize in a rapidly changing environment.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certificate, associate degree, or military technical training preferred.
- 2+ years of relevant hands-on buildandtestexperience (or equivalent trade/military experience).
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, andperform work that may involve bending, kneeling, andworking at heights or in confined spaces.
- Willingness to work extended hours, occasional nights, andweekends to support critical buildandtestmilestones.
- Ability to obtain andmaintain any required site or nuclear facility access clearances.
- Must be able to work safely around high-voltage systems, pressurized systems, andother industrial hazards, following all applicable safety standards.
- Comfortable working on-site full-time in Austin, TX.
- Due to the nature of our work, applicants must be eligible to work in the U.S. andmay be subject to export control (ITAR/EAR) andnuclear regulatory requirements.
