Job Summary
This Senior Software Engineer position at the Acuity Digital Center of Excellence (DcoE) in Cork plays a key role in designing, developing, testing, and supporting software solutions within Product Data Management (PDM). PDM is a critical enterprise capability that manages and exposes product information needed to market, sell, configure, price, manufacture, and support Acuity products.
You will work as a hands-on senior engineer within a cross-functional Agile team, building and enhancing applications, REST APIs, event-driven integrations, data services, and user experiences. The role requires strong C# and .NET engineering capability, sound software design skills, and experience delivering reliable enterprise applications using modern DevOps and testing practices.
You will contribute directly to feature delivery and technical improvement, while providing code-review support, technical guidance, and mentoring to other engineers.
Key Tasks & Responsibilities (Essential Functions)
- Design, develop, test, deploy, and support scalable software
- Strong command of code-level design patterns and solid principles, including repository, unit of work, dependency injection, factory, and strategy, with the judgment to know when a pattern is earning its keep and when it is overhead.
- Deep fluency in at least one modern backend language. We build primarily in C#/.NET, so that is ideal. Strong Java, Go, or Kotlin engineers willing to work in C# are equally welcome.
- Production cloud experience. Azure preferred; AWS or GCP fine.
- Write clean, maintainable, secure, and well-documented code using sound object-oriented design principles and established engineering standards.
- Develop and enhance web applications and user experiences used to create, maintain, validate, and publish product information.
- Work with databases to design data access patterns, queries, stored procedures, and data integrations.
- Integrate PDM with enterprise applications and downstream consumers, including product configuration, quoting, ordering, product discovery, data syndication, digital experiences, manufacturing, and supply-chain solutions.
- Enhance and support existing PDM capabilities while contributing to pragmatic modernization of legacy components.
- Contribute to unit, integration, regression, and performance tests and to test automation and quality engineering practices.
- Apply logging, monitoring, tracing, and alerting to improve application observability and production support.
- Participate in troubleshooting complex applications, API, integration, data, performance, and production issues through structured root-cause analysis.
- Participate in code reviews, technical refinement, estimation, and solution-design discussions.
- Mentor engineers - help raise standards for code quality, testing, security, maintainability, and delivery.
- Collaborate with product management, architecture, QA, DevOps, business stakeholders, and consuming engineering teams to deliver measurable business outcomes.
- Work effectively within Agile and SAFe delivery practices, contributing to sprint and PI planning, demonstrations, retrospectives, and continuous improvement.
Skills and Minimum Experience Required
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Software Engineering, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- Strong hands-on programming experience with C# and .NET, including object-oriented design, dependency injection, asynchronous programming, and modern coding practices.
- Proven experience developing REST APIs and backend services.
- Experience developing web-based enterprise applications and integrating frontend and backend components.
- Strong experience with SQL, relational databases, data modeling, and performance-conscious data access.
- Experience integrating enterprise systems through REST APIs, services, events, messaging, or batch processes.
- Proficiency with Git, branching strategies, pull requests, code reviews, CI/CD, and Azure DevOps.
- Experience with automated unit and integration testing.
- Solid understanding of software design principles, secure coding, API design, error handling, and application observability.
- Experience diagnosing and resolving issues in business-critical production applications.
- Good understanding of Agile software development and scaled Agile delivery practices.
- Excellent problem-solving, communication, collaboration, and ownership skills.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Proficiency with AI-assisted software development practices.
- Genuine interest in the engineering domain. Curiosity about how products are designed, revised, and released matters more here than on most teams.
- Experience with Product Data Management, Product Information Management, Product Lifecycle Management, or product catalog solutions.
- Working knowledge of OAuth 2.0 and OIDC. You should know what is in a token and what breaks when it is wrong.
- Experience developing or consuming event streams and event-driven integrations.
- Experience with containerization, microservices, or cloud-native application patterns.
- Experience with application modernization and incremental replacement of legacy components.
- Knowledge of authentication and authorization patterns, API security, vulnerability management, and DevSecOps practices.
- Experience mentoring software engineers and influencing engineering practices across a delivery team.
