AECOM is an American infrastructure consulting firm that became independent in 1990 through a management buyout from the energy group Ashland, and is now one of the largest design and engineering organisations in the world. It plans, designs and manages delivery of transport systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, buildings, environmental remediation and energy projects for public agencies and private developers across roughly one hundred and fifty countries. Headquartered in Dallas after relocating from Los Angeles, the company sold its self-perform construction and government services arms to concentrate on higher-margin professional services rather than carrying construction risk.

“I have always sought experience in areas where I am part of a legacy that progressed sustainable initiatives, and so the most enjoyable aspect about working at AECOM is having the opportunity to work on a variety of challenges with the authentic goal to work with clients to develop solutions that are best for now and for future generations.” - Dominique Keirens, Technical Director - Water

Come grow with us.

We specialise in asset management and offer comprehensive planning, design, and construction for water infrastructure. From irrigation to raw water assets, we optimize efficiency, increase ROI, and reduce costs. Trusted by municipal water companies, we ensure safe drinking water, sanitation, and environmental protection. Our solutions-ranging from urban flood protection to hydroelectricity-help create climate-resilient, water-sensitive cities that benefit both people and the planet.

Everyone belongs at AECOM.

We’re committed to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging - because great ideas come from diverse perspectives. AECOM is proud to be a Fortune 500 Most Admired Company, a WGEA Employer of Choice for Gender Equality, #Work180 Equitable Workplace Awards 2025 Winner and an AWEI Bronze Tier LGBTQ+ Inclusive Employer.

Our Water Resources team provides multi-disciplinary, integrated delivery of water resources services across all industry sectors, particularly in the areas of flood impact assessment, flood risk management, hydrological and hydraulic modelling, drainage design and water quality.

We’re looking for a Water Resources Engineering Intern to join our team and work alongside experienced engineers, scientists, and planners on real-world projects from day one.

How you’ll make a difference:

  • Contribute to a range of projects, including flood studies, stormwater management, water quality assessments, and urban water design, working under the guidance of experienced team members.
  • Assist in delivering water sensitive urban design (WSUD), drainage design, and hydraulic modelling for varied infrastructure projects by compiling data, preparing inputs, and helping with draft deliverables under supervision.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and gain exposure to both local and national initiatives, contributing to coordinated and integrated solutions.
  • Support project coordination activities, help with report drafting and documentation, and observe or assist with client engagement, depending on your interests and project needs.

  • Summer Intern attributes: Interns who are curious and excited to apply their studies in a professional environment. You'll bring strong communication and teamwork skills, a positive and proactive attitude, adaptability, and a commitment to professionalism and integrity.
  • Bachelor’s Degree: You must be in your penultimate year of a Bachelor's or Postgraduate degree in Civil or Environmental Engineering. Must have an interest in working with water with electives in flooding, hydraulics or similar.
  • Commencement: Able to work full time hours from mid November 2026 - mid February 2027. Potential to continue on a part time basis after the summer internship, during your final year of study, depending on project needs.
