AECOM is seeking a highly experienced Electrical Engineering Head - PMC to lead electrical engineering delivery across large-scale energy and infrastructure programs in India.

This role is a senior technical leadership position within PMC engagements, responsible for overseeing the design, review, and execution of electrical systems across renewable energy (solar, wind, hybrid), conventional generation, hydro/PSP, BESS, substations, and transmission networks up to 765 kV.

The role operates at the interface of engineering, project management, and stakeholder coordination, ensuring that all electrical systems are designed, implemented, and commissioned in accordance with project objectives, grid requirements, and applicable standards. The position also supports techno-commercial optimization, digital integration, and grid readiness for modern energy systems.

Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities

Engineering Leadership & Design Management

  • Lead electrical engineering delivery for solar PV, wind, hybrid renewable energy - BESS, and conventional energy projects, including pooling substations and EHV transmission systems.
  • Provide technical direction for LV/MV/HV/EHV systems, including AC/DC systems, auxiliary systems, and electrical balance of plant.
  • Oversee design of electrical systems including cable sizing, transformer sizing, switchgear selection, bay configurations, and drive systems.
  • Lead development and review of AIS/GIS substations, switchyards, bay extensions, and transmission interfaces (OHL/UGC).

Engineering Deliverables & Documentation

  • Review and approve key basic and detailed engineering deliverables including:
    • Single Line Diagrams (SLDs), schematics, layouts, GA drawings
    • Power evacuation schemes and system configurations
    • Technical specifications, datasheets, BOQs/BOMs
  • Ensure accuracy, completeness, and alignment with project scope and standards.

Power System Studies & Grid Compliance

  • Direct and review detailed power system studies, including:
    • Load flow, short circuit, protection coordination
    • Earthing and grounding design
    • Cable sizing and voltage drop
    • Transient, dynamic, and EMT studies
    • Reactive power compensation and grid compliance
  • Ensure alignment with state and central grid codes and utility interconnection requirements.

Standards, Quality & Technical Assurance

  • Ensure compliance with IEC, IEEE, BIS, IS, and CEA standards and international best practices.
  • Implement robust engineering governance, quality assurance, and design review processes.
  • Lead arc flash studies, insulation coordination, and power quality assessments.

Procurement & Vendor Management

  • Lead technical bid evaluations, vendor assessments, and contractor selection processes.
  • Review and approve vendor drawings, technical submissions, and deviations.
  • Support procurement with technical specifications, cost optimization, and value engineering.
  • Drive vendor validation, localization, and cost-benefit analysis (CBA).

Construction, Testing & Commissioning Support

  • Provide technical oversight during manufacturing, installation, and site execution.
  • Witness and review type tests, routine tests, FAT, SAT, and commissioning activities.
  • Support performance testing, troubleshooting, and resolution of technical issues.

Due Diligence & Techno-Commercial Advisory

  • Perform technical due diligence, feasibility studies, and techno-economic assessments for:
    • Renewable and hybrid energy systems
    • Grid-connected BESS and associated infrastructure
  • Support bid-stage engineering, risk assessment, and project optimization.

Transmission & Grid Integration

  • Lead engineering for power evacuation systems, including:
    • Transmission line design inputs (OHL/UGC)
    • Substation integration and grid connectivity
  • Support integration of renewable, hydro/PSP, and storage systems into EHV networks.

Stakeholder Coordination & PMC Role

  • Act as Owner’s Engineer / PMC technical lead, interfacing with:
    • Clients, utilities, regulators, contractors, and OEMs
  • Ensure alignment across design, procurement, and construction phases.
  • Resolve technical issues, manage design changes, and mitigate project risks.

Engineering Governance & Digitalization

  • Establish and maintain engineering document management systems and design databases.
  • Drive standardization of engineering practices and templates.
  • Support adoption of digital engineering tools, analytics, and integrated project platforms.

Team Leadership & Capability Development

  • Lead, mentor, and develop multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Conduct technical reviews, troubleshooting sessions, and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
  • Foster a culture of engineering excellence, safety, and continuous improvement.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering / Power Systems.
  • 12+ years of relevant experience in electrical engineering for energy, industrial, or infrastructure projects.
  • Proven experience in HV/EHV substation design (AIS/GIS) and power evacuation systems.
  • Strong expertise in power system studies and electrical design calculations.
  • Hands-on experience with tools such as AutoCAD, EPLAN, ETAP, MATLAB/Simulink or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience in PMC, EPC, or consultancy environments.
  • Strong understanding of international standards and grid codes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in electrical engineering.
  • Chartered Engineer (CEng/PE) or equivalent certification preferred.
  • Experience with utilities or major developers (e.g., Powergrid (CTU/STU), StateGrid).
  • Exposure to FACTS, HVDC systems, harmonic filters, and digital substations.
  • Familiarity with ISO/RTO markets, tariffs, and interconnection processes.
  • Experience in large-scale Power transmission and Substation, and hybrid renewable energy projects including BESS.
  • Knowledge of engineering data management platforms (DMP) and digital integration frameworks.
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
  • Ability to operate in a matrixed, multicultural, and multidisciplinary environment.
  • Willingness to travel for project reviews, factory visits, and site support.
  • Demonstrates leadership, accountability, and adaptability in complex project environments.
