AECOM is an American infrastructure consulting firm that became independent in 1990 through a management buyout from the energy group Ashland, and is now one of the largest design and engineering organisations in the world. It plans, designs and manages delivery of transport systems, water and wastewater infrastructure, buildings, environmental remediation and energy projects for public agencies and private developers across roughly one hundred and fifty countries. Headquartered in Dallas after relocating from Los Angeles, the company sold its self-perform construction and government services arms to concentrate on higher-margin professional services rather than carrying construction risk.

We are looking for a Principal Hydraulic Modeller in Manila to provide technical leadership, quality assurance and senior modelling input across hydraulic network modelling, urban drainage, flood risk, pollution reduction and integrated catchment projects.

The role will help establish and mature Manila hydraulic modelling capability, providing technical direction to project teams, mentoring senior and junior staff, supporting strategic planning assignments and strengthening delivery confidence for international clients.

Key responsibilities:

Technical leadership

· Lead the development, calibration and verification of hydraulic network models using InfoWorks ICM or similar platforms.

· Act as technical lead or senior reviewer on major modelling projects, frameworks and programmes.

· Provide technical oversight and quality assurance across multiple projects, ensuring models, calculations, assumptions and deliverables are robust and traceable.

· Guide strategic planning, storm overflow reduction, network resilience, growth assessment, flood risk and pollution reduction initiatives.

· Support scope development, tender responses, fee inputs and technical approaches where required.

Manila capability and team development

· Help build Manila as a trusted centre for hydraulic modelling and InfoWorks ICM delivery.

· Mentor and develop junior, senior and specialist modelling staff through technical guidance, structured review and knowledge sharing.

· Develop or improve workflows, quality checklists, modelling standards, training material and lessons learned for repeated use across projects.

· Support workload planning, task allocation, review sequencing and escalation of technical or delivery risks.

· Promote consistent communication between Manila delivery teams and client-facing teams in the UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand and other markets.

Data, analysis and client support

· Analyse complex datasets and modelling outputs, preparing high-quality technical reports and client deliverables.

· Interpret data to assess the impact of upstream activities, growth, climate, network constraints and operational conditions on hydraulic systems.

· Review survey, rainfall, flow, SCADA, EDM, CCTV and asset data to determine model confidence and fitness for use.

· Support client discussions, technical queries, option appraisal and evidence-based decision-making.

· Ensure technical assumptions, model limitations, reviewer comments and agreed changes are properly documented.

· Degree in Civil Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Water Resources, Hydrology or a related discipline.

· Master's degree or equivalent advanced technical training in hydraulics, water resources, environmental engineering or related field would be advantageous.

Essential experience:

· Extensive experience in hydraulic network modelling within consultancy, utility or infrastructure environments.

· Strong proficiency in InfoWorks ICM and hydraulic modelling workflows, standards and quality processes.

· Proven ability to lead projects, provide technical direction and review complex model outputs and deliverables.

· Strong understanding of hydraulic planning, storm overflow reduction, drainage area planning, growth assessment and network resilience.

· Excellent communication, stakeholder management and technical report-writing skills in English.

· Ability to mentor staff, build capability and operate effectively across international project teams and time zones.

Desirable experience:

· Experience supporting UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand or other international water industry projects.

· Strong understanding of UK water industry regulations, AMP cycles, Uisce Eireann / Irish Water standards, Welsh MBV or comparable client frameworks.

· Experience contributing to bids, framework delivery, technical standards, modelling guidance or standard operating procedures.

· Experience with 1D / 2D modelling, river, pluvial or integrated catchment modelling using HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, Flood Modeller Pro or similar tools.

· Chartered status, professional registration or active progress towards recognised professional qualification would be beneficial.
