What is the Opportunity?

Aecon’s Civil East sector is a cornerstone of our construction and infrastructure operations, delivering innovative solutions to some of the most complex and impactful projects globally. Renowned for its expertise in heavy civil construction, our Civil East sector specializes in building essential infrastructure that powers economies and enhances communities.

Our portfolio features cutting-edge work on bridges, highways, tunnels, and airports to name a few! In the Caribbean region, we are leveraging our expertise and collaborative approach to deliver world-class infrastructure projects tailored to meet the unique needs of the island communities.

We are looking for Mechanical Engineer, Intern at Aecon International, you’ll work alongside experienced professionals to streamline project costs and mitigate risks, all while maintaining high standards of quality and adhering to building regulations. This opportunity is available for a work term of up to 12 months.

What You'll Do Here:

  • Assist with mechanical engineering assignments of limited to moderate complexity.
  • Prepare mechanical calculations, bill of materials (BOM), and basic engineering drawings using CAD software.
  • Support plant data gathering and field walkdowns.
  • Maintain detailed design document files.
  • Coordinate and support mechanical scopes of work across facilities and systems interfaces.
  • Assist with planning, sequencing, and execution of mechanical activities in alignment with the project schedule and construction phasing.
  • Review M&E drawings, specifications, shop drawings, and RFIs to identify conflicts, constructability issues, and interface risks.
  • Work closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, Engineers, and Subcontractors to resolve technical and coordination issues.
  • Track and report progress of M&E installations, inspections, and deficiencies.
  • Support testing, commissioning, and system turnover activities, including documentation and close-out requirements.

What You Bring to the Team:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree programme in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Completed coursework in thermodynamics, with power engineering and HVAC preferred.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.).
  • Experience with graphical design software such as Autodesk AutoCAD.
  • Experience working with others in a project team environment.
  • Strong technical writing, presentation, and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as in a team environment.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize work in a multi-tasked environment.
  • Ability to work accurately and effectively under pressure.
  • Capability to work both independently and within a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to travel as required.
