Technical Consultant, Modern Apps

This hands-on delivery role within the Modern Apps practice focuses on building software: designing, writing, testing, debugging, and deploying production-quality code within client engagements. The ideal candidate brings strong coding ability, sound engineering habits, a growing sense of technical judgment, and a passion for delivering high-quality software faster through effective use of AI-assisted development tools.

Technical Consultants own defined features, components, and small workstreams end to end. They operatewith day-to-day independence while working inside the technical direction set by a Senior or Principal Technical Consultant, andare trusted contributors on delivery teams building and modernizing web applications, mobile applications, APIs, functions, and related platform services.

In Modern Apps, this role is especially well suited to engineers who are excited about AI-native software delivery. Candidates should be productivedaily users of tools such as Claude Code and have experience using AI to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, documentation, and other parts of the software development lifecycle.

Responsibilities:

• Deliver hands-on development across greenfield and brownfield application engagements

• Design, write, test, debug, and deploy production-quality code across modern application stacks

• Own defined features, components, and small workstreams from implementation through delivery with limited supervision

• Write and maintainautomated tests, and validate that delivered work meets functional, performance, and security expectations

• Participate in code reviews as both author and reviewer, giving useful feedback on correctness, readability, and maintainability

• Use AI-assisted development tools daily for code generation, refactoring, debugging, test creation, and documentation

• Extend AI into supporting SDLC activities such as test coverage, engineering documentation, story refinement, and technical research

• Review and verify AI-generated output before committing it rather than accepting results at face value

• Produce component-level and feature-level designs and document them clearly for the team and the client

• Apply established design patterns correctly and recognize common anti-patterns in implementation-level work

• Coach Associate and Senior Associate Technical Consultants through pairing, code review feedback, and day-to-day guidance

• Own the quality, timeline, and handoffs for assigned work, and raise risks and blockers early

• Serve as a dependable point of contact for client project-team stakeholders, and present and defend your work in customer sessions

Qualifications:

• working proficiencyin a second: Java, C#, JavaScript, or Python

• Demonstrated ability to write, test, debug, and deliver production-quality code with limited supervision

• Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile delivery practices

• Practical experience with automated testing and testing strategies for reliable, production-ready code

• Working knowledge of design patterns and anti-patterns, with the ability to produce component-level and feature-level design artifacts

• Experience building or modernizing applications, APIs, and cloud-native services using modern development frameworks and DevOps practices

• Working knowledge of security, CI/CD, source control practices, and operational basics such as logging and monitoring

• Proficiencywith AI development tools, especially Claude Code; experience with Cursor, Windsurf, GitHub Copilot, Continue.dev, and similar tools is valued

• Ability to apply prompting, context management, and output validation, and to use AI beyond coding for test creation, documentation, and technical research

• Ability to work independently on defined scope, manage competing priorities, and know when to escalate ambiguous or high-risk decisions

• Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical work to client project-team stakeholders

Preferred Qualifications:

• Consulting or professional services background in custom application development or modernization

• Experience contributing to modernization of legacy or brownfield applications

• Experience with messaging, event-streaming, or integration technologies

• Experience across more than one delivery pattern, such as web, mobile, API, integration, or serverless

• Relevant cloud platform certifications

• Experience coaching or onboarding junior engineers

• Community involvement such as writing, internal enablement, or meetup participation
