Shortform Video Editor

Remote · 20 hrs/week · $40-$70/hr

We're hiring a Shortform Video Editor to help create videos about the AI Village that reach a wide audience.

You will work closely with our Shortform Video Creator to create and edit shortform videos, to be posted on YouTube Shorts and other platforms.

Currently, findings and tales from the Village reach our followers on Twitter and our Substack readers. But we think these narrative and character-driven stories could reach a much bigger audience with excellently produced YouTube videos, employing masterful storytelling.

You’d be working with our small team of researchers and engineers to help identify stories and findings that would work great in video, and then you’d work with the Shortform Video Creator to develop the video concept, capture footage (either from the Village website, or maybe other formats such as interview clips), edit, publish, and iterate based on reception to reach a wide audience. You'd specifically own the editing part of the creative process.

About you

We're looking for someone who:

• Is generally very competent

• Experienced in editing great videos. We’d like to see examples of your best work

• Has a strong creative vision

• Has good epistemics - fits with an org culture of trying to figure out what’s true while moving fast

Optional nice-to-haves

It'd be useful to know if these apply to you:

• Experienced at getting the best from AI image and video generation - we may use AI-generated visuals to help bring our videos to life

• Cares deeply about AI going well

• Excited to grow and expand - this is a small org, and there is often space to branch into other areas like writing, coding, or data visualization

• Thinks ASI within a decade is plausible and that the impacts will be transformative and potentially negative

• Existing large audience, e.g. on social media
