AIG

American International Group is an insurer founded in Shanghai in 1919 that grew into one of the largest financial institutions in the world before its near-collapse in 2008, when losses on credit default swaps written against mortgage securities forced the largest government rescue of a single company in American history. It has spent the years since dismantling that conglomerate, separating its life and retirement business as Corebridge and selling numerous units, and it now concentrates on commercial property and casualty insurance. Headquartered in New York, it is a considerably smaller and simpler company than the one that failed.

The Central Reserving team is seeking a highly analytical and innovative professional to help advance our reserving capabilities through the application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and advanced analytics. This role will be responsible for developing tools and models that identify and quantify key drivers of claims outcomes, uncover insights into loss development behavior, and enhance reserving accuracy across multiple lines of business.

In addition, this role will support the analysis, determination, and reporting of reserves for Extra-Contractual Obligations (ECO) and Corporate-Level Unallocated Loss Expense (ULE).

The successful candidate will partner with reserving actuaries, claims professionals, data scientists, and business leaders to transform complex datasets into actionable insights, modern analytical tools, and next-generation reserving methodologies.

This position offers a unique opportunity to influence the future of actuarial reserving by combining traditional actuarial expertise with cutting-edge AI and advanced analytics capabilities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the quarterly process of determining the appropriate amount of IBNR to be booked across assigned reserving segments, including Extra-Contractual Obligations (ECO) and Corporate-Level Unallocated Loss Expense (ULE).
  • Analyze information to determine, document, and communicate the adequacy of loss and loss expense reserves.
  • Develop and apply advanced analytics, predictive modeling, and AI-based tools to identify and quantify key drivers of claims outcomes, improve reserve estimates, and generate business insights into loss development behavior.
  • Research, develop, and enhance reserving methodologies and models to improve reserve accuracy and support actuarial transformation initiatives.
  • Analyze and monitor loss development trends, claims emergence patterns, and relevant industry, regulatory, and operational changes, and effectively communicate findings to management.
  • Assist with quarterly financial and regulatory reporting (quarter close) and provide data and exhibits for annual statement reporting, including ECO and ULE reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with Claims, Finance, Pricing, Data Science, and Technology teams to improve data quality, streamline processes, and achieve reserving modernization objectives.
  • Work effectively both independently and as part of a team to achieve the organization's financial, strategic, and operational objectives.

Qualifications:

  • BS in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related area
  • ACAS or FCAS
  • 4 or more years of experience in reserving and/or pricing
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Work well both independently and as part of a team
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, SAS, Python, R, or other programming languages preferred
  • Strong business and collaboration skills and responsive to service needs and operational demands
  • Effective time management skill
  • Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills
  • Strong work ethic

For positions based in New York and Connecticut, the base salary range is $105,000-$130,000. The position is eligible for a bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable incentive plan.
