AIG

American International Group is an insurer founded in Shanghai in 1919 that grew into one of the largest financial institutions in the world before its near-collapse in 2008, when losses on credit default swaps written against mortgage securities forced the largest government rescue of a single company in American history. It has spent the years since dismantling that conglomerate, separating its life and retirement business as Corebridge and selling numerous units, and it now concentrates on commercial property and casualty insurance. Headquartered in New York, it is a considerably smaller and simpler company than the one that failed.

Get to know the business

Within Finance, AIG’s Corporate Development team is responsible for the evaluation and execution of strategic transactions (e.g., acquisitions, divestitures, joint ventures, minority investments) and supporting the development of AIG’s business unit and enterprise-wide strategy.

About the role

The Corporate Development team is seeking a Senior Analyst to support the evaluation and execution of strategic transactions. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical and quantitative skills and the ability to present complex information in a manner that supports executive decision-making. Additionally, the candidate must demonstrate excellent organizational and communications skills and the ability to deliver a high-quality work product in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

Senior Analysts play an integral role on the Corporate Development team and while day-to-day responsibilities are diverse, core responsibilities include the following:

  • M&A Process Management: Develop workplans with detailed workstream-level status updates, maintain working group lists, draft meeting agendas and take meeting notes
  • Due Diligence: Maintain and update due diligence request lists and manage virtual data rooms. Liaise with subject matter experts from across AIG’s business units and functional areas (e.g., legal, tax, finance, etc.)
  • Financial Modeling & Valuation: Construct financial models and develop valuation and return analyses in support of transactions
  • Memorandums & Presentations: Prepare memorandums, presentations and comprehensive financial analyses for AIG’s senior management, Board of Directors and other key stakeholders
  • Strategy Development: Conduct in-depth research and analysis on insurance markets, lines of business/products, industry dynamics and emerging trends in support of AIG's strategy
  • Adhoc Requests: Perform ad hoc qualitative and quantitative analysis in support of other strategic initiatives
  • Competitive Benchmarking: Monitor financial and operational performance of insurance peers and potential acquisition targets

  • Discretion in dealing with confidential and sensitive information
  • A bachelor’s degree is required, with a major in finance, economics or related field preferred
  • Prior M&A transaction and/or Property & Casualty insurance experience a plus, but not required
