About Airbound
Our mission is to make a world where everyone has access to delivery. Where goods move as freely as information moves today.
This is possible. Today the cost of moving on a scooter is ₹2/km. That’s the cost of moving a 150kg mass from point A to B. We’re bringing that mass down to less than 5kgs, concurrently bringing the cost down to 10 paise/km. This is how we make deliveries a reality. This is how we create a world where we’re doing billions of deliveries per day.
The tech is not there. The current cost of drone delivery is ₹100/km. We need to completely redefine the way things are done here. We’re building the world’s most efficient aircraft from the ground-up, and scaling that up to beyond anything the aerospace sector has ever seen. This cannot be an iterative process. We have to tear down all conventions and build everything up from scratch.
To do this, we need nothing less than the best engineers. The ones who care about building something fundamentally different, who are deeply curious about understanding the fundamentals of everything they’re working on, who are dreamers that believe in the impossible.
About Manufacturing & Industrialization
This isn't assembly-line work. It's manufacturing built from scratch for aerospace at a scale the industry hasn't attempted. Every jig, every mold, every process step is designed for repeatability at volumes the traditional aerospace supply chain was never built for. This team turns raw composites, electronics, and systems into a single flawless aircraft - not once, but thousands of times over.
About the Role
We're hiring a Manufacturing Engineer to help take Airbound from prototype-scale production to a high-volume facility. This role spans both sides of manufacturing: getting individual parts and processes production-ready, and standing up the equipment and facility that produce them at volume. You'll work closely with the mechanical design team on manufacturability, develop the processes behind our composites, molded, additive, and machined parts, and own equipment from spec through commissioning.
We're open to engineers across a range of levels, as long as you've been through this before: you've taken a product through at least one real development lifecycle, and you've been part of launching at least one production facility, not just read about how it's done. Most of what we do here is being built for the first time, so we're looking for engineers who want to build and rebuild processes from scratch alongside us, not just apply a playbook from somewhere else.
Key Responsibilities
Design for Manufacturability
Review mechanical designs for manufacturability and work with the design team to resolve issues before they hit the floor
Translate requirements from internal teams and external stakeholders into manufacturable, producible designs
Process Development
Develop and own manufacturing processes for parts and assemblies - composites layup, injection molding, additive manufacturing, and machining
Design and prototype mechanical assemblies and process-specific tooling, validating with load calculations, tolerance analysis, basic FEA, and weight budgets
Facility & Equipment
Design facility layouts and material/process flow, applying industrial engineering fundamentals
Specify and procure production equipment - write the SOW, evaluate vendors, and see it through installation and commissioning
Vendor & Cross-Functional Collaboration
Partner with external vendors and equipment suppliers to get tooling, equipment, and parts delivered to spec
Chase down the process and equipment details that separate a line that runs in a demo from one that runs every shift
Qualifications
Must-Have
Hands-on manufacturing engineering experience that includes having taken a product through at least one full development lifecycle
Direct experience being part of launching a production facility; from capacity planning through to ramp
Advanced proficiency in 2D and 3D CAD
Working knowledge of load calculations, tolerance analysis, basic FEA, and weight budgeting
Hands-on experience designing and prototyping mechanical assemblies
In-depth understanding of composites layup, injection molding, additive manufacturing, and machining
Design-for-manufacturing fundamentals and basic industrial engineering
Experience with equipment design and procurement, from SOW writing through commissioning
Basic project management skills - able to scope, plan, and run your own projects with minimal oversight
Strong attention to detail and genuine ownership over the processes and equipment you build
Clear communicator, comfortable working directly with both internal engineering teams and external vendors
Willingness to go the extra mile when a project needs it
Good to Have
Experience with high volume production process development (automotive, consumer electronics, etc.)
Experience with commissioning robot and other automation cells
Experience with mold design, sourcing and qualification
Work location: Hoskote, Bangalore (Headquarters)
What We Offer
Comprehensive health insurance to keep you and your loved ones covered
Relocation assistance and a daily travel stipend to ease your commute
Advanced salary credit to support you when you need it
“A driven, passionate team where you’ll have room to grow and thrive - this is more than just a job, it’s a rare opportunity to build something meaningful from the ground up”
Work Schedule:
In-office role, working alternate Saturdays.
