About AIRoA

AI Robot Association, AIRoA, is an organization dedicated to collecting large-scale real-world robotics data, including data from humanoid robots, and advancing the development of generative AI foundation models for robotics.

AIRoA has been selected under the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry, METI, and NEDO’s “Post-5G Information and Communication Systems Infrastructure Enhancement R&D Project” to develop a data platform for generative AI foundation models in robotics. The project has a budget of JPY 20.5 billion. Leveraging this platform, AIRoA is working to collect one million hours of humanoid robot operation data using more than 100 robots, with the goal of developing a world-class Vision-Language-Action, VLA, model.

This initiative is distinguished not only by the scale of its real-world data and humanoid robotics platform, but also by its commitment to openness. AIRoA aims to make datasets, trained models, benchmarks, and evaluation environments as open as possible, thereby building a Robot Data Ecosystem that can be shared by researchers, startups, and large enterprises.

To achieve this, AIRoA requires not only AI models and software, but also robust robot hardware environments that can operate reliably in the real world and support continuous measurement, evaluation, and improvement.

In this role, you will be responsible for electrical, wiring, and embedded electrical systems related to humanoid robots, dual-arm robots, robotic hands, teleoperation systems, and validation environments.

Position Overview

AIRoA is advancing the collection of real-world data, the development of experimental environments, and the validation of robotic systems required for AI robot learning and evaluation through the use of robot hardware.

As R&D progresses, however, existing hardware is increasingly unable to meet all project requirements. AIRoA therefore needs to design and develop its own robotic electrical systems, including humanoid robots, dual-arm robots, robotic hands, sensor integration, power systems, communication systems, and safety systems.

In this position, you will work closely with Mechanical Engineers, Robotics Engineers, AI/Software Engineers, and Research Scientists. You will be responsible for electrical design, wiring design, sensor and actuator integration, power and communication design, prototyping, evaluation, troubleshooting, and design improvement.

This is not merely a role focused on maintaining hardware for data collection. It is a position focused on designing the “real-world interface” required to enable a world-scale AI robotics research infrastructure.

AIRoAについて

AI Robot Association(AIRoA)は、ヒューマノイドロボットをはじめとする実世界ロボットの⼤規模データを収集し、ロボティクス分野における⽣成AI基盤モデルの開発を推進する組織です。

AIRoAは、経済産業省およびNEDOの「ポスト5G情報通信システム基盤強化研究開発事業」において、ロボティクス分野の⽣成AI基盤モデル開発に向けたデータプラットフォーム開発の採択事業者に決定しており、事業予算は205億円です。この基盤をもとに、100台以上のロボットを⽤いて100万時間規模のヒューマノイドロボット操作データを収集し、それを活⽤して世界最⾼⽔準のVision-Language-Action(VLA)モデルを開発するプロジェクトを進めています。

この取り組みの特徴は、実世界データとヒューマノイドプラットフォームの規模だけではありません。AIRoAは、データセット、学習済みモデル、ベンチマーク、評価環境を可能な限りオープンにし、研究者‧スタートアップ‧⼤企業が共通して活⽤できる「Robot Data Ecosystem」の構築を⽬指しています。そのためには、AIモデルやソフトウェアだけでなく、実世界で安定して動作し、計測‧評価‧改善を継続できるロボットハードウェア環境が不可⽋です。

本ポジションでは、ヒューマノイドロボット、双腕ロボット、ロボットハンド、遠隔操作システム、検証環境などに関する電気‧電装‧組込電気システム領域を担っていただきます。

ポジション概要

AIRoAでは、ロボットハードウェアを活⽤しながら、AIロボットの学習‧評価に必要な実世界データの収集、実験環境の構築、ロボットシステムの検証を進めています。

⼀⽅で、研究開発の進展に伴い、既存ハードウェアだけでは満たせない要件も増えており、AIRoAとしてヒューマノイドロボット、双腕ロボット、ロボットハンド、センサ統合、電源‧通信‧安全系を含むロボット電気システムを⾃ら設計‧開発する必要が⽣じています。

このポジションでは、Mechanical Engineer、Robotics Engineer、AI/SoftwareEngineer、Research Scientistと連携しながら、ロボットの電気設計、電装設計、センサ‧アクチュエータ統合、電源‧通信設計、試作、評価、トラブルシューティング、設計改善までを担っていただきます。単なるデータ収集⽤ハードウェアの保守ではなく、世界規模のAIロボット研究基盤を成⽴させるための「実世界インターフェース」を設計するポジションです。

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical and wiring systems for humanoid robots, dual-arm robots, robotic hands, and teleoperation systems
  • Select and integrate sensors, actuators, motor drivers, control boards, power supplies, and communication systems
  • Design internal robot wiring, harnesses, connector selection, and electrical layout
  • Design power and safety systems, including batteries, power distribution, protection circuits, emergency stops, and safety mechanisms
  • Electrically integrate motors, encoders, IMUs, force/torque sensors, tactile sensors, cameras, and related components
  • Assemble, wire, debug, evaluate, and perform failure analysis for prototypes and research robots
  • Improve the operational stability of robot hardware in experimental and data collection environments
  • Analyze and resolve issues related to noise, heat generation, voltage drops, communication instability, poor contact, and cable disconnection
  • Create and update electrical design specifications, wiring diagrams, BOMs, inspection procedures, and evaluation reports
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with Mechanical Engineers, Robotics Engineers, AI/Software Engineers, and researchers
  • Communicate technically with external manufacturers, suppliers, fabrication partners, and member companies
  • Improve designs with future scalability in mind, including maintainability and reproducibility

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or higher in electrical engineering, electronics, control engineering, robotics, mechatronics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • Hands-on experience in electrical design, wiring design, or embedded electrical system design for robots, industrial machinery, factory automation equipment, mobility systems, precision equipment, medical devices, automobiles, or related products
  • Practical experience selecting and integrating at least one of the following: sensors, actuators, motors, motor drivers, control boards, power supplies, or communication devices
  • Experience creating or reviewing wiring diagrams, harness drawings, electrical layouts, BOMs, or related documentation
  • Hands-on experience evaluating and troubleshooting electrical systems using tools such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and regulated power supplies
  • Experience participating in the design, assembly, evaluation, debugging, and improvement of prototype or R&D-phase hardware
  • Experience collaborating with mechanical, control, and software engineers to build and validate physical systems
  • Business-level Japanese proficiency (equivalent to JLPT N2 or above)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience developing humanoid robots, dual-arm robots, robotic hands, mobile robots, collaborative robots, or related robotic systems
  • Experience in electrical system design for high-degree-of-freedom robots, mechatronic products, or devices with moving parts
  • Knowledge of and experience integrating brushless DC motors, servo motors, motor drivers, encoders, IMUs, force/torque sensors, tactile sensors, or related components
  • Experience integrating devices using communication interfaces such as CAN, EtherCAT, Ethernet, USB, RS-485, SPI, I2C, or UART
  • Experience designing power and safety systems, including batteries, power distribution, protection circuits, emergency stops, and safety mechanisms
  • Experience analyzing and resolving issues related to noise, heat generation, voltage drops, poor contact, cable disconnection, EMC, or EMI
  • Experience with PCB design, circuit design, and board evaluation
  • Experience using ROS/ROS 2, Linux, Python, C/C++, or related tools for hardware evaluation and debugging
  • Experience with mass-production design, supplier selection, quality improvement, ECR/ECO processes, or manufacturing launch
  • Experience communicating technical topics in English-speaking environments
