ALPINE RACING LIMITEDJob Description
Software Engineer:
About the job
At Alpine Formula One Team, we're on a mission to return to the top of the Formula One grid.
Software more than ever is playing a pivotal role within this objective, with every aspect of the F1 car depending on in-house systems, from design and manufacture through to simulation and performance analysis at the track. The Software Engineering and Data team is responsible for building and evolving cutting-edge software solutions into a competitive advantage.
We are looking for a Software Engineer to join the team at our headquarters in Enstone, Oxfordshire, where you will play a crucial role in helping to achieve this goal.
The Role
You'll join a team of Software Engineers working across systems in a multitude of domains, rather than being tied to a single project. You'll work directly with our users, such as design, performance and race engineers who rely on our software daily, at the factory and at the track, owning your work from the first conversation with them through to release and beyond:
- Working with users to understand their workflows, challenge assumptions and turn what they need into well-defined pieces of work.
- Designing solutions that fit the existing architecture cleanly, without over-engineering and without cutting corners.
- Writing high-quality, testable code that handles edge cases and failure modes, and giving reviews that make other people's code better.
- Releasing your own work with confidence: tested, communicated and monitored. Once it's live, you use operational data to see how it actually behaves.
- Maintaining and evolving existing systems as well as building new ones. Paying down technical debt is part of the job, not something for later.
- Using AI-assisted development tools as part of how you engineer, and holding what they produce to the same standard as any other code.
The Person
· You take ownership of your work, communicate clearly and approach disagreement with curiosity rather than defensiveness.
· You'd rather spend another hour at the whiteboard than a week reworking something that was rushed.
· You care about doing things properly because you've seen what happens when corners are cut, not because someone told you to.
· You're at ease with people who aren't software engineers. You can turn a vague problem into a clear plan and explain trade-offs in terms that matter to the person asking.
We don't require certifications, and we don't have a laundry list of frameworks you must have used. If you've built and shipped real software in C# and you bring the right instincts, such as being quality-minded, pragmatic and focused on the user, we want to hear from you.
We are looking for individuals who have
- Proven commercial experience developing in C# and .NET. Most of our codebase is C#, so this is our one firm technical requirement.
- Experience building web services (gRPC, REST or similar) and working with relational databases, ideally SQL Server.
- A good grasp of software design and design patterns, and the judgement to know when not to use them.
- Experience across the full development lifecycle: requirements, design, implementation, testing, release and support.
- A systematic approach to debugging and supporting production systems.
- Clear written and verbal communication, including technical and user documentation.
- A degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
It would be an advantage if you also have:
- Experience with Blazor or another modern web UI framework.
- Experience with Python, C++, or MATLAB, which we use alongside C#.
- Hands-on use of AI coding assistants such as Claude Code or GitHub Copilot, or experience integrating LLM capabilities into applications.
- Exposure to CI/CD, containerisation or ETL processes.
- An interest in engineering, scientific or data-heavy domains. Motorsport experience isn't needed.
we offer
This is Formula 1. The software our teams build directly shapes how the car is designed, developed and run, so your work has a direct influence to the grid. We believe that without the right software we won't be world champions, and we aim to build the best software on the grid.
You'll join a group that values technical excellence, long-term thinking, and real collaboration. Everyone understands how their work fits into the bigger picture.
We offer a competitive remuneration package, private medical healthcare, a company pension scheme, and flexible working opportunities including hybrid arrangements. You'll have access to excellent on-site facilities at our Enstone headquarters, including a free gym and subsidised restaurant, as well as additional benefits.
