Job Description - Team Leader, Proximate Analysis (Central Lab)

Position: Team Leader - Proximate Analysis

Department: Central Laboratory

Location: ALS Testing Services India Pvt. Ltd.

Reporting To: Laboratory Manager / Operations Manager

Role Purpose

The Team Leader - Proximate Analysis will be responsible for managing and supervising the day-to-day operations of the Proximate Analysis section within the Central Laboratory. The role ensures timely, accurate, and compliant testing while maintaining high standards of quality, safety, productivity, and team performance.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise analysts and technicians involved in proximate analysis activities.
• Ensure timely testing and reporting of samples as per agreed turnaround times (TAT).
• Review and verify test data, calculations, and analytical results before release.
• Ensure compliance with ALS quality standards, ISO/IEC 17025 requirements, SOPs, and regulatory guidelines.
• Maintain laboratory instruments and ensure proper calibration, qualification, and preventive maintenance.
• Investigate and resolve analytical issues, OOS (Out of Specification), and laboratory deviations.
• Monitor workload distribution and optimize resource utilization.
• Train, mentor, and evaluate laboratory staff to enhance technical competency and productivity.
• Coordinate with cross-functional teams to ensure smooth sample flow and project execution.
• Ensure adequate inventory of laboratory consumables, reagents, and reference standards.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, quality, and cost effectiveness.
• Maintain accurate laboratory documentation, logbooks, worksheets, and records.
• Ensure adherence to EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) practices at all times.

Technical Requirements

• Hands-on experience in proximate analysis techniques
• Strong understanding of laboratory quality systems and data integrity principles.
• Knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025.
• Experience in handling laboratory instruments and troubleshooting analytical issues.

Qualifications

• M.Sc. / B.Sc. in Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry, Food Science, Pharmaceutical Sciences, or a related discipline.
• Additional certifications in Quality Systems or Laboratory Management will be an advantage.

Experience

• 5 to 8 years of laboratory experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory or team-leading role.
• Experience in testing laboratories, pharmaceuticals, food, environmental, or related analytical industries preferred.
