We are seeking a Project Engineer to lead the planning, coordination, and delivery of a complex Layout Engineering scope within a multidisciplinary engineering programme.

This role is specifically suited to candidates with a strong background in plant layout, equipment layout, CAD integration, spatial coordination, design integration, or infrastructure layout engineering, combined with proven project engineering or project management experience.

You will act as the interface between Layout Engineering, Project Controls, and Programme Management, ensuring design activities are properly scoped, planned, resourced, coordinated, and delivered. This is not a planner role; instead, you will provide the technical insight and understanding needed to build credible schedules, define work breakdown structures, manage dependencies, and support delivery forecasting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the coordination and delivery of Layout Engineering activities across complex engineering programmes.
• Act as the focal point between Layout Engineers, Project Managers, Planners, and external stakeholders.
• Develop and maintain engineering work breakdown structures for layout scope.
• Define technical deliverables, key interfaces, dependencies, and engineering milestones.
• Support planners by providing accurate sequencing, assumptions, resource requirements, and delivery logic.
• Coordinate design integration activities across multiple engineering disciplines.
• Manage interfaces between layout design, systems, structures, civil, mechanical, electrical, and supplier-delivered packages.
• Monitor engineering progress and support delivery against schedule, cost, quality, and scope objectives.
• Identify and manage technical risks associated with design integration and layout development.
• Support governance reviews, project reporting, forecasting, and performance management.
• Coordinate engineering suppliers and subcontractors delivering layout-related scope.

Required Skills:

Layout Engineering

• Strong experience in plant layout engineering, facility layout, equipment arrangement, 3D design integration, or multi-discipline design coordination.
• Experience managing layout engineering activities through concept, preliminary, and detailed design phases.
• Understanding of design integration challenges within large engineering projects.
• Experience coordinating interfaces between multiple engineering disciplines.
• Ability to understand and challenge design assumptions, spatial constraints, and layout changes.

Project Engineering & Delivery

• 5-10 years' experience in Project Engineering, Engineering Management, Project Coordination, or Technical Programme Delivery.
• Experience delivering engineering projects within large-scale infrastructure, energy, manufacturing, defence, aerospace, transportation, or regulated environments.
• Experience developing execution plans and engineering delivery strategies.
• Strong understanding of work package management and engineering governance.
• Experience supporting project controls and schedule development.

Planning & Coordination

• Experience defining Work Breakdown Structures (WBS).
• Knowledge of engineering planning and scheduling principles.
• Experience managing interdependencies across multiple technical teams.
• Resource forecasting and workload management experience.
• Ability to provide planners with credible engineering delivery assumptions and logic.

The ideal candidate will have knowledge of:

• Engineering design lifecycles.
• Systems engineering principles.
• Design integration and interface management.
• Design review processes.
• Change control and configuration management.
• Engineering assurance and governance.
• Risk and opportunity management.
• Agile engineering delivery methodologies.
• BIM and engineering information management practices.

Required Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, or equivalent military experience.

Desirable Skills:

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership.
• APM PMQ, PRINCE2, PMP, or similar project qualification.
• Knowledge of ISO 15288 Systems Engineering principles.
• Experience working within highly regulated industries.
