Amazon is an American technology and retail conglomerate founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 as an online bookstore and headquartered in Seattle, Washington. It operates the world's largest online marketplace together with a global logistics network, physical grocery stores and a third-party seller platform that accounts for most units sold. Amazon Web Services, launched in 2006, is the leading public cloud provider and generates the majority of the group's operating profit, while advertising, Prime Video, Alexa devices and Kuiper satellite broadband round out the business.

Amazon Australia's Retail team is looking for a Category Manager to join us as we continue growing and setting new standards in e-commerce for Australian customers. This is a strategic, hands-on role requiring deep commercial acumen, P&L ownership, and the ability to conduct sophisticated analysis that drive strategic business decisions. You'll need to be comfortable working with multiple metrics and KPIs, conducting complex analysis, and making data-driven decisions. As a Category Manager, you'll be a passionate advocate for customers while developing your category through strong supplier relationships. You'll also act as a Subject Matter Expert in your field, coaching and developing team members and peers.

A successful Category Manager will:

- Enjoy a high degree of ownership: this will include owning the category P&L, driving ranging decisions, category expansion, and identifying operational efficiencies across your portfolio

- Bring analytical depth: going beyond reviewing data to proactively dive deep into metrics, uncover opportunities, and build actionable strategies

- Be a skilled negotiator: confidently leading commercial discussions to secure optimal terms while fostering long-term, mutually beneficial partnerships and earning trust with stakeholders

- Embrace a growth mindset: demonstrating resilience, curiosity, and a genuine appetite for continuous learning, including Amazon’s ways of working such as document-led meetings and culture of high velocity decision making.

- Technology & AI Adoption: Embrace AI and new technologies, diving into Amazon's tools and systems quickly and confidently

- Thrive in a fast-paced environment: demonstrating strong organisational skills and effectively prioritising competing demands across multiple workstreams

Amazon values diverse experiences and candidates with transferable skills are encouraged to apply. We are hiring across multiple business units and will help match your profile to one of the exciting categories as we go through the hiring process. Our categories include:

- Electronics (Audio, Consumer Electronics, TV or Camera)

- Home & Living (Toys, Kitchen, Sports, Lawn and Garden, or Office)

- Entertainment (Physical Books, Video Games, Music, or Digital Products)

- Subsidised health insurance for you and your dependents, on top of salary continuance (income protection) and life insurance

- Inclusive culture: Amazon celebrates diversity of background, experience, and thought as a key driver of innovation and our mission to be the most customer-centric company in the world

This position requires full-time in-office presence 5 days per week at our CBD location.

Key job responsibilities

- Drive Category Strategy: Own end to end category performance, develop growth strategies, and make data-driven ranging decisions

- Demand Forecasting: Create forecasts of demand based on multiple sources, including local sales history, other locale data, external market insights, and vendor feedback to inform strategic decision-making

- Build Strategic Partnerships: Lead commercial negotiation and cultivate long term relationships with existing and potential supplier partners to create mutually beneficial growth opportunities

- Pricing & Promotion: Shape pricing strategies that balance profitability with customer value. Partner with marketing teams to plan and execute impactful promotional events.

- Collaborate Across Functions: Partner with marketing, finance, supply chain, and advertising teams to achieve holistic business objectives

- Develop Team Capabilities: Act as a subject matter expert, coach colleagues, and contribute to team knowledge development

A day in the life
