Data Engineering Manager

Describe what the person will do in the role - how he/she will impact the organization. Our Marketing and Consumer Data Solutions team is seeking a highly motivated Engineering Manager with a strong technical background who is passionate about designing and building systems to process data at scale that unlocks capabilities across software and data disciplines. The role requires expert knowledge of building scalable, fault-tolerant data products to ensure the reliable delivery of both real-time and batch data. Our tech stack includes AWS, Databricks, Snowflake, Airflow, and Spark, and the languages include Scala, Python, SQL, and Java.

Responsibilities:

• Focus on major areas of work, typically 20% or more of role % of Time.
• Lead a portfolio of engineering teams focused on the development of a next-generation, big-data system, with the aim of enhancing Disney's data platform capabilities.
• Continuously evolve team mission, strategy, and charter and develop team structure for changing business needs and technology trends.
• Drive adoption of the best engineering practices, including the use of design patterns, CI/CD, code review, and automated integration testing.
• Collaborate with program managers, product managers, SDET, and researchers in an open and innovative environment.
• Recruit and mentor team members and first-line managers, fostering career development and providing guidance throughout their professional growth.

Requirements:

• Minimum and Preferred. Inclusive of Licenses/Certs (include functional experience as well as behavioral attributes and/or leadership capabilities).
• BS in computer science, EE or other quantitative subject area and/or equivalent work experience.
• 10+ years of software and/or data engineering professional work experience.
• 5+ years of professional work experience with programming languages (e. g., Python, Scala, SQL).
• 3+ years of work experience in leading the development of large, complex software/data platforms with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong knowledge of system, application design, data architecture, and modeling.
• Strong project and program management experience in agile, fast-paced environments
• Ability to interpret data, identify insights, and communicate actionable strategies to senior levels of the organization.
• Strong interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills; experience working cross-functionally.
• BS in computer science, EE or other quantitative subject area and/or equivalent work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks/EMR/Spark and Airflow a plus.
• Proficiency in establishing and scaling products or teams from inception (0 to 1) and expanding them to a larger scale (1 to 100).
• Experience with Snowflake, Databricks/EMR/Spark and Airflow, Test automation technologies (e. g., Selenium).
