The Amazon Web Services (AWS) AI Engineering Team, within the Cloud and AI Innovation Team (CAIT), partners with customers to design and build better products faster using AI and reimagining software development lifecycle. AI Engineers collaborate with AWS Sales and other AWS teams to help address customer business challenges and accelerate the adoption of AWS services.

***The Role***

We are seeking a Manager, AI Engineering to lead a team of AI Engineers. In this role, you will hire, develop, and inspire a high-performing team of customer-facing developers and architects who help enterprises architect and deploy different systems to production using AI. You will serve as a technically credible executive sponsor to strategic customers, holding AI strategy conversations grounded in real architectural understanding with CAIOs, CTOs, and VPs of Engineering at Fortune 500 companies.

Beyond direct customer engagement, you will drive Thought Leadership in the generative AI and agentic systems space, publishing guidance, frameworks, and best practices that shape how the broader AWS field engages with customers on AI. You will also lead Advancing the Organization initiatives, partnering with AWS engineering and product teams - including Bedrock, Kiro, Quick - to translate customer signals and field feedback into actionable product improvements. You will create and run programs that enable the field to execute at scale, turning lessons learned from individual customer engagements into repeatable patterns and scalable assets.

This role requires a leader who can operate fluidly between deeply technical implementation conversations and executive-level AI strategy discussions. You must earn the trust of Senior AI Engineers through demonstrated architectural fluency and sound technical judgment, while simultaneously building credibility with service teams, organizational leadership, and customer executives. The ideal candidate brings a rare combination of technical depth, people leadership, and organizational influence - someone who knows which problems matter, which patterns will scale, and how to build a team that delivers outsized impact.

Key job responsibilities

• Hire, develop, and retain a world-class team of Applied AI Architects, fostering a culture of technical excellence, customer obsession, and continuous learning.
• Set the technical vision and strategic direction for the Applied AI Architecture practice worldwide, ensuring the team's guidance and best practices evolve with the rapidly changing generative AI landscape.
• Serve as a technically credible executive sponsor to strategic customers, engaging directly with C-level technology leaders on AI strategy, production architecture, and business outcome realization.
• Build and maintain trusted relationships with AWS service and product teams, establishing feedback loops that translate field insights into product improvements and roadmap influence.
• Drive Thought Leadership through publications, frameworks, and speaking engagements that position AWS as the leader in production generative AI and agentic systems.
• Create scalable programs, tools, and enablement assets that help the broader AWS field execute generative AI engagements with customers at scale.
• Navigate ambiguity in a fast-moving technical domain, making directional decisions with incomplete information while building mechanisms to course-correct.
• Represent the voice of the customer internally, synthesizing patterns across engagements to inform organizational strategy and investment priorities. We operate at the frontier of AI, bridging foundation models and production systems through direct customer engagements, open-source accelerators, and close collaboration with AWS service teams. Basic qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent training or certifications

- 10+ years of technical engineering experience

- 5+ years of engineering team management experience

- 10+ years of planning, designing, developing and delivering consumer software experience

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

- Experience managing multiple concurrent programs, projects and development teams in an Agile environment

Preferred qualifications
