Amazon is an American technology and retail conglomerate founded by Jeff Bezos in 1994 as an online bookstore and headquartered in Seattle, Washington. It operates the world's largest online marketplace together with a global logistics network, physical grocery stores and a third-party seller platform that accounts for most units sold. Amazon Web Services, launched in 2006, is the leading public cloud provider and generates the majority of the group's operating profit, while advertising, Prime Video, Alexa devices and Kuiper satellite broadband round out the business.

We are seeking a Network Development Engineer to join our network engineering team. We design, deploy, and operate purpose-built networks for advanced manufacturing and R&D facilities. From large scale to rapid-deployment lab environments, these networks are the backbone that enables robotics development, production operations, and product testing at scale.

Our mission is to deliver manufacturing-grade network infrastructure that sets the standard for performance, availability, and security while enabling engineering teams to build and ship at velocity.

We are looking for a Network Development Engineer who can design, implement, and operate SD-Access campus and manufacturing networks end to end. You will own network design from requirements through deployment, operate the infrastructure post-turnover, and drive automation that reduces human touch in maintenance and change execution. You will work directly with product engineering and R&D teams as their network partner, translating their requirements into production-ready infrastructure.

The right candidate has hands-on experience with modern campus/manufacturing network design, is comfortable operating at scale across multiple sites, and thrives in ambiguity. You must be able to drive high-level design decisions and also roll up your sleeves to configure, troubleshoot, and deliver. You will anticipate bottlenecks, make tradeoffs between business timelines and technical constraints, and own outcomes end to end.

Key job responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain SD-Access manufacturing networks (underlay, overlay, fabric roles, wireless)
  • Own network builds for new sites end to end: requirements gathering, high-level and low-level design, equipment procurement, staging, deployment, and customer turnover
  • Operate and maintain production networks across multiple manufacturing and R&D sites
  • Develop and maintain automation for network provisioning, configuration management, and change execution (Python, Ansible, or equivalent)
  • Support real-time and OT use cases including machine vision, PTP timing, and industrial control traffic on the same fabric
  • Partner with product and R&D engineering teams to translate their connectivity requirements into network designs
  • Contribute to the network reference architecture and maintain documentation and runbooks
  • Mentor junior engineers and support engineers on networking best practices A day in the life Amazon offers a full range of benefits for you and eligible family members, including domestic partners and their children. Benefits can vary by location, the number of regularly scheduled hours you work, length of employment, and job status such as seasonal or temporary employment. The benefits that generally apply to regular, full-time employees include: 1. Medical, Dental, and Vision Coverage 2. Maternity and Parental Leave Options 3. Paid Time Off (PTO) 4. 401(k) Plan If you are not sure that every qualification on the list above describes you exactly, we'd still love to hear from you! At Amazon, we value people with unique backgrounds, experiences, and skillsets. If you’re passionate about this role and want to make an impact on a global scale, please apply!

Basic qualifications

- 4+ years of major internet routing protocols experience

- 4+ years of working in a Linux/Unix environment experience

- 2+ years of network engineering and deployments for large-scale networks in a corporate environment, including hands-on physical infrastructure installations, hardware integration, racking, and cabling experience

- 4+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience

- 2+ years of Linux operating systems experience, or experience with network hardware: copper and optical fiber cabling, switches, routers

- Experience with SD-Access, VXLAN/LISP, or similar fabric architectures

- Experience with AWS networking (Direct Connect, Transit Gateway, VPC)

Preferred qualifications

- 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience

- Strong understanding of TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, VXLAN, LISP, PTP (IEEE 1588), and network segmentation (VRF, TrustSec/SGT)

- Experience with Cisco ISE (identity services, profiling, TrustSec)

- Experience with Cisco Catalyst Center (formerly DNAC) for fabric management and assurance

- Experience with manufacturing, OT, or industrial network environments

- Experience with network automation and CI/CD (Python, Git, Ansible, or equivalent pipelines)

- Experience supporting real-time protocols (PTP, Profinet, EtherCAT) or machine-vision traffic on converged networks

- Familiarity with firewalls (Palo Alto), wireless design (Wi-Fi 6E/7), and PoE/UPOE infrastructure

- Strong desire to build, sense of ownership, and ability to operate independently across multiple sites
