The Operation Networking Engineering ONE- Core team builds next-generation LAN infrastructure that powers Amazon's global fulfillment and operations network. The team manages LAN reliability, availability and automation for over 2,700 sites worldwide, assisting Amazon Operations and Grocery businesses.
We are seeking a Network Development Engineer I to design and implement horizontally scalable LAN architecture. You will work on initiatives that will help to automate the reliability work, improving the LAN availability and work on building automation for self remediation of network events across thousands of devices. Your work will directly impact the improvement of complete LAN infrastructure.
The team is focused on automating networks from multiple diverse vendors, maximizing reliability while minimizing human touch in deployment and maintenance activities. We collaborate closely with IT support teams to ensure that simplicity in our product designs translate to supportability in the field. Information security rigor is at the core of everything we do. You will tackle challenging, novel situations every day and have the opportunity to work with multiple technical teams at Amazon in different locations. You should be comfortable with the idea of solving problems that haven't been solved at scale before. It is expected that you will be technically strong, while at the same time being balanced and pragmatic in your approach. Key job responsibilities
As an NDE I on the Core team, you will:
- Solve complex technical problems involving Cisco switching technology, network automation, and automating the manual tasks.
- Design solutions that are scalable, testable, maintainable, and efficient. Network reliability and automation are fundamental to your approach.
- Work on major portions of LAN network technology implementation, applying best practices while making pragmatic trade-offs that consider both short-term operational needs and long-term business requirements.
- Operate the largest fulfillment network in the world, working with technologies including Cisco and other vendor network devices, config management, network automation tools, and configuration management systems.
- Leverage AI-powered tools to enhance network operations, diagnostics, and operational efficiency.
- Partner with customers and stakeholders to develop project ideas into project plans, participate actively in design reviews and operational reviews, and mentor team members.
- Driving root cause resolution of network events most impactful to the business.
A day in the life
In this role you will operate the largest fulfillment centre and grocery network in the world, and provide guidance to and mentoring to network support teams to develop their skills and reinforce best practices. Network reliability is critical to Amazon Operations, and your responsibilities will include driving root cause resolution of network events most impact-full to the business.

The ONE-Core Networking organisation supports multiple business globally, from the smallest delivery stations in emerging markets to the most advanced automated fulfillment centers in North America, Japan, and Europe. Basic qualifications
- 2+ years experience in a network focused hands-on technical role working with IP routing protocols/technologies and experience designing and operating large-scale production networks
- 2+ or more years of experience with major routing protocols, specifically BGP and OSPF
- 2+ or more years of experience with routing and switching hardware from major vendors including Cisco and Juniper
- Demonstrated ability to design, implement, and operate network solutions that are secure, stable, testable, and maintainable
- Strong documentation skills with proven methodology for creating clear technical documentation
- Experience building or enhancing tools, developing best practices, refining operational procedures, and thinking proactively with innovation
- 2+ years experience in a technical on-call capacity, responding to customer impacting events, mitigating and root cause analysis of those events.
- 1+ years of experience in automation via Bash/shell scripting and Perl/Python programming.
Preferred qualifications
- 1+ years of automation scripting using Python, Bash, Shell and/or Perl experience
- 2+ years of major internet routing protocols experience
- 2+ years of hands on experience in working on Linux/Unix
- A Masters in Computer Science, MBA, or equivalent experience.
- Senior Engineer experience at other organizations.
- Expert-level certifications (e.g. CCIE, JNCIE) a plus.
- Scripting and or automation skills in a network environment.
- Software development/programming skills are a plus.
