Risk Manager, Dangerous Goods Classification

We are looking for a Risk Manager to join our Dangerous Goods Classification team.

The Risk Manager will ensure Dangerous Goods meet applicable regulatory requirements, strategize with internal stakeholders to support business expansion, develop best-in-class standard operational processes, improve them and provide support to stakeholders during the implementation phase. The candidate will maintain and continually seek opportunities to improve existing processes via benchmark and best practices while interacting with a broad group of stakeholders and functions.

The candidate needs to be able to work in an ambiguous environment, while managing projects and diving deep into operations. The role also requires an aptitude to adapt to scope changes, propose solutions, be able to drive processes across Amazon’s expanding network and linking into global initiatives.

The successful candidate will closely work with Amazon Technology, Transportation, Legal, Retail, Amazon Shipping, Fulfilled by Amazon and our Operation teams.

Key job responsibilities

Job Responsibilities include:

- Define standard operational processes applicable to Dangerous Goods Classification, implement / support the implementation, maintain and align these operational processes across classification and operational workstreams;

- Continuous improvement: identify, analyze, develop, deploy and actively seek cross-functional coordination opportunities to improve processes, safety and customer experience.

- Clear, precise, and regular communication with all stakeholders including ongoing project/program status reports as well as capturing requirements from various stakeholders.

- Monitor project execution and ensure that the project delivery is to the appropriate levels of quality and in line with its target date, ensuring the overall integrity within the program;

- Become a subject matter expert in Dangerous Goods requirements and advise stakeholders

- Coordinating closely with internal and external stakeholders to proactively identify, track, report, escalate and drive resolution to compliance issues.

A day in the life

This role works to support how Amazon applies DG compliance regulations across its fulfillment network. You'll leverage continuous improvement and lessons learned to advance DG compliance operations, classification processes, and systems. You'll define program strategy with business owners, participate in cross-functional workstreams, and communicate regularly with senior management on roadmaps, risks, and change management as a subject matter expert in DG classification.

About the team

Amazon's customers trust that products sold and fulfilled through our network are safe, correctly classified, and handled in compliance with applicable regulations worldwide. Through right identification, the DG Classification team supports the safe and compliant handling of Amazon's regulated inventory throughout Amazon's network of fulfillment centers and other operational facilities.

Basic qualifications

- Bachelor's degree or equivalent

- Experience in compliance program management, legal, governance, audit, risk/loss prevention, or equivalent

- Experience establishing successful partnerships with internal and external teams to execute tactical initiatives or equivalent

Preferred qualifications

- Professional auditing qualification, or similar risk or compliance credentials

- Experience with SQL and Excel

- Experience in program requirements definition, together with data and metrics leveraging to drive improvements

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
