Prime Video is entering a new era where we're no longer satisfied having the most number of streaming customers or having the largest selection of content for our customers. We want to be the default entertainment hub for customers worldwide. In order to realize this vision, Prime Video's Global Video Supply Chain has been hard at work over the last three years reinventing, simplifying and scaling the underlying content platform. As we enter the final stages of completing the prior three year vision, we are seeking a Platform Leader who can create and drive the next chapter of our journey.

As a Software Development Manager, we'd like you to grow the existing team, hire and develop software, quality and data engineering leaders and engineers in building the next generation content and data platform. As part of the Prime Video leadership team, you will work on developing the systems and strategies used by Amazon worldwide and will regularly interact with senior leadership. You will work with our engineering, business, and operations teams world-wide to define organization roadmaps, drive execution of technology projects, drive operational excellence initiatives and manage technology operations. You’ll need to build, manage, and mentor a growing and high-performing engineering team towards achieving a focused mission. You’ll work in a high volume environment and will be required to lead not only at the strategic level, but also tactically day-to-day by diving deeply into business and technical domains.

To accomplish this, you will be expected to have an established background in building highly scalable systems and system design, excellent people and program management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment. You should be somebody who enjoys working on complex system software, is customer-centric, and feels strongly about connecting customer problems through underlying scalable software that raises the bar on customer and operational goals. Experience with building and operating web-based applications and/or web services-based applications, especially at massive scale, will be very applicable and helpful.

This is a high visibility, high growth role with direct reporting relationship to a Level7 and frequent Level8/Level10 reviews.

About the team

Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering customers a vast collection of premium programming in one app available across thousands of devices. Prime members can customize their viewing experience and find their favorite movies, series, documentaries, and live sports - including Amazon MGM Studios-produced series and movies; licensed fan favorites; and programming from Prime Video add-on subscriptions such as Apple TV+, Max, Crunchyroll and MGM+. All customers, regardless of whether they have a Prime membership or not, can rent or buy titles via the Prime Video Store, and can enjoy even more content for free with ads.

Basic qualifications

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 5+ years of leading development of applications backed by AWS services or using other cloud based technologies and services experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

- Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, or a related field

- Experience managing a team of high calibre Software Engineers developing complex, world class, scalable software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. Your Amazon package will include sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
