Software Development Manager, Promotions Customer Experience (PCX)

You will own the systems that determine which promotions surface to which customers and how, powering customer-facing experiences across search, detail pages, cart, and checkout during every major shopping event globally.

You will guide your team through complex distributed-systems challenges, drive platform investments that unify promotional experiences, and partner across product, design, and engineering to turn ambiguous customer problems into shipped outcomes. Key job responsibilities

- Own the technical strategy and multi-year roadmap for a core promotions platform, aligning engineering investments with customer and business goals.

- Lead, hire, coach, and develop a team of software engineers, building an inclusive, high-performing culture and supporting each individual's career growth.

- Drive system design and architecture decisions across distributed services, real-time and batch data pipelines, and machine-learning-driven merchandising at scale.

- Operate and continuously improve services that supply deals and promotions data to over 150 internal consumers, maintaining high availability through peak-traffic events.

- Partner with product management, design, and peer engineering teams to define requirements, prioritize work, and deliver measurable outcomes for customers.

A day in the life

You will start many mornings reviewing operational metrics and service health dashboards before joining your team's stand-up. From there, your time shifts between architecture reviews with engineers, roadmap discussions with product partners, and one-on-ones focused on career development. You will regularly collaborate with cross-functional teams to align on upcoming launches, then carve out time for strategic planning, writing technical documents, or diving deep into a design review. Expect a mix of focused individual work and energetic group problem-solving throughout the day.

Our team owns the end-to-end promotions and deals experience on Amazon. Our mission is to create a unified promotional experience that presents customers with the most relevant savings, breaking down boundaries between deals, coupons, price discounts, and other formats to deliver a cohesive shopping journey. We serve data and ranking signals to over 150 teams across Amazon, making our platform one of the highest-reach systems in the retail organization. Basic qualifications

- 3+ years of engineering team management experience

- 7+ years of working directly within engineering teams experience

- 3+ years of designing or architecting (design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and existing systems experience

- 8+ years of leading the definition and development of multi tier web services experience

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations

- Experience partnering with product or program management teams

Preferred qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy

- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers

The base salary range for this position is listed below. As a total compensation company, Amazon's package may include other elements such as sign-on payments and restricted stock units (RSUs). Final compensation will be determined based on factors including experience, qualifications, and location.
