We have a unique challenge to overcome: use ML and LLMs at the scale of Amazon. As a software development engineer you will develop scalable LLM infrastructure that can be used to process billions of documents and images each year, in a cost efficient way.

The ideal candidate will be eager to work in a team of innovators and contribute to a suite of tools that power automating and scalable content processing with the end goal of providing Amazon shoppers and sellers with a frictionless and trustworthy shopping and selling experience. You will be working in an Agile mode, collaborating with product management and partner teams to iterate at a fast pace and delight our end users.

Key job responsibilities

Your key responsibilities will include:

- designing, developing and maintaining distributed systems hosted in AWS;

- guiding a team of engineers in writing maintainable code and adhering to operational practices;

- defining idiomatic solutions for processing varied types of content with diverse ML solutions and application integrations;

- improving performance and operational costs;

- researching solutions for technically ambiguous problems.

A day in the life

As senior software engineer’s day typically involves designing or researching technical solutions and alternatives to your team’s most critical and complex features and projects. As a team leader, you will also review your peers’ code and dive deep into their design documents to provide feedback on software architecture, scalability and security. You will code the critical code path in your projects and coordinate with peers on the tasks that you delegated to them. You advise your manager on trade-offs and product future direction.

About the team

Compliance Safety Services (CoSS) vision is to provide best-in-class automation of controls for internal compliance and business programs (our primary customers) to lower costs in the Amazon flywheel on behalf of our end customers: buyers and selling partners. We provide easy-to-use shared services with data privacy, security and tenant isolation across all stages, while continuously raising industry standards for automation performance and cost efficiency, giving our program customers confidence that they have access to optimal cost-efficient automation options to better serve their end customers.

Basic qualifications

- Bachelor's degree

- Experience building complex software systems that have been successfully delivered to customers

- Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Java, C++, or C# including object-oriented design

- Experience leading the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability and scaling) of new and current systems

Preferred qualifications

- Master's degree in computer science or equivalent
