Do you want to turn innovative ideas into medical devices that make a difference? If you have a flair for mechanical design, enjoy taking ownership and solving complex challenges, we would love to hear from you.

Ambu is currently looking for anExperienced R&D Engineer to join our Mechanical Engineering team.

In this role, you will join a passionate team of engineers, all with different backgrounds, collaborating to drive our continued product innovation. You can expect to use your strong design background to broaden your experience across the full development cycle, ensuring continued professional and technical development.

In this position, you will likely thrive the most if you naturally tend to take charge and support your colleagues. You may be a strong mechanical designer in your field, but you should also identify yourself with the values of Taking Charge and Team Up. If you have experience in driving technical development, that will certainly help you succeed in this role.

The role is based at our Innovation Site in Ballerup, Denmark.

Key responsibilities

In this role, you will be in a key position in the development of Ambu’s future products. You can therefore expect to:

  • Identify user needs, design inputs and specifications through participation in the project start-up phase where interaction with key opinion leaders, doctors and other experts worldwide is crucial to fulfil the ambitious innovation targets
  • Be a key influencer in significant development projects within Ambu
  • Develop new, and further improve existing, mechanical design solutions of components and assemblies as well as optimization of existing designs for Ambu's extensive product portfolio within endoscopy, anesthesiology, and patient monitoring
  • Have the responsibility for the mechanical design and construction of functionalities, parts and assemblies including quality aspects for robust and safe medical products
  • Translate technology concepts into fully working prototypes ready for feasibility testing and process evaluation including documentation
  • Ensure that the component or product is manufacturable in high volume, fulfils function and stays within defined cost framework
  • Ensure continually updated documentation in accordance with the regulations from FDA and ISO certification including FMEA's, risk assessments and tolerance analyses
  • Trust cooperation with internal and external partners. You will work in international development teams from Germany, Denmark, and Malaysia as well as with external partners, users, physicians, and suppliers

Suggested candidate profile

Skills and experience can be earned in many different ways, and we understand that the best fit for the role cannot be prescribed on paper. You are, however, likely to succeed in this position if you have.

Ideally, you can assess manufacturability from a designer’s perspective and bring practical, hands-on insights rather than purely academic approaches. Experience with micromanufacturing or integrating design for small metal and plastic parts will be considered an advantage. We welcome candidates with expertise in microparts, and previous experience with hearing aids or similar precision devices would be a strong plus.

  • Successfully completed a technical or scientific course of study, e.g., mechanical or medical engineering resulting in a broad technical understanding
  • Good strong knowledge of working with a CAD system e.g. Inventor, Solidworks, Creo, Catia
  • Have some experience in product development and/or design of safety-critical products
  • Experience working with the development of Medical Devices is considered an advantage, however other highly regulated industries could also be relevant
  • Relevant experience in the design of mechanical and plastic components for high volumes from the fields of injection molding, extrusion, and tool design
  • Professional level of both written and spoken English
  • Strong team and communication skills, initiative, and courage to take charge in development project groups
