AMD

AMD is an American semiconductor company founded in 1969 and headquartered in Santa Clara, California, that designs processors, graphics chips and adaptive computing hardware without owning fabrication plants. Its Ryzen and Threadripper processors and Radeon graphics serve consumers and creators, EPYC server chips have taken a large share of the data centre market from Intel, and the Instinct accelerators compete for AI training and inference workloads. The 2022 acquisition of Xilinx added field-programmable gate arrays and adaptive systems on chip, and the company also supplies the custom silicon inside the PlayStation and Xbox consoles.

THE ROLE:

AMD is seeking a candidate with subject matter expertise to join our Component Quality & Reliability team, driving component quality from concept to end of life to ensure a differentiated experience, de-risk AMD product quality, and build customer confidence. The successful candidate will be accountable for key components used on AMD products. This is a high-visibility role with interfaces across suppliers, engineering, sourcing, global operations, quality leadership, and AMD business units.

THE PERSON:

You are highly organized, able to prioritize and manage multiple workstreams to tight deadlines. You are a self-starter with a positive attitude and a strong desire to succeed. You bring strong communication and project management skills, with the ability to build relationships and drive effective decision-making across multiple functions and levels within a global matrix organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Lead the supplier interface for key component suppliers across all AMD business units.

  • Issue Management: Lead and drive resolution of supplier quality and reliability excursions, serving as the primary interface with suppliers to drive root cause, containment, and corrective actions as needed.

  • Component Spec Management: With cross-functional team input, develop and drive supplier compliance with AMD component specification requirements, as applicable by commodity, including de-rating, electrical specifications, APQP, reliability, and outgoing DPPM quality, by production release target dates.

  • MP Readiness Review Lead: Lead mass production readiness reviews of key supplier manufacturing facilities, participating in on-site factory audits as needed.

  • Define Component KPIs: Define KPIs that suppliers must deliver through development into MP readiness, and measure and improve outgoing supplier quality control through component end of life.

  • DFM (Design for Manufacturability) Compliance: Ensure alignment between design and operations (ASIC Package and Board Operations/Engineering) to confirm supplier manufacturing tolerances meet AMD DFM requirements.

  • Partner with suppliers, the AMD Sourcing Council, Component and Board Design teams, Silicon & Package Reliability teams, Engineering leadership, Global Operations and Quality leadership, and AMD business units.

  • Travel internationally to supplier sites approximately 25% of the time.

PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Extensive experience in manufacturing and quality control with any of the following: mechanical enclosures, discrete semiconductors, multi-chip modules, memory, power modules, or board products.

  • Experience developing process quality plans, conducting supplier quality audits, and driving 8D root cause and corrective actions, reliability testing, Six Sigma, and failure analysis.

  • Supplier-facing experience with the ability to network, build relationships, and drive effective decision-making across multiple functions and levels within the organization.

  • Hands-on experience with process capability analysis, measurement system analysis (GRR, ARR), cross-cavity checks, and process qualifications.

  • Strong project management experience within a global matrix organization.

  • Experience working with international OEMs and contract manufacturers.

ACADEMIC CREDENTIALS:

  • BS/MS in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a similar field.

Benefits offered are described: AMD benefits at a glance.
