Amex Digital Labs is seeking a VP, Capabilities, Strategy and Partnerships to help define where American Express should play next across the evolving landscape. This role will serve as the connective tissue across Product, Partnerships, Ventures, and Ecosystem stakeholders to identify strategic opportunities, evaluate emerging technologies, and execute partnership negotiations to support Product needs. This role will also be a critical partner to Lab’s Product organization to source data and insights partnerships to support our broader Agentic experiences.
This role is focused on supporting Labs’ strategy, driving deep understanding of future market opportunities, understanding technical product needs, and identifying potential partners / vendors to enable us to deliver exceptional products and experiences for our customers.
- Maintain a forward-looking view of new tech, inclusive of AI, commerce, fintech, identity, loyalty, membership, customer needs and platform trends.
- Negotiate agreements with partners, support their onboarding and manage capabilities partners to support needs of the product organization
- Define the strategic framework for evaluating data, insights and partnerships to support proprietary product development.
- Develop recommendations for where Labs should engage, partner, build, or acquire capabilities to support product team aspirations and build needs.
- Act as a key coordination point between Product, BU teams, Ventures, and strategy teams to inform Lab’s roadmap.
- Own competitive intelligence and external ecosystem monitoring, with a focus on data, insights, new capabilities and startup players.
- Build relationships across the startup ecosystem, venture community, and strategic partners.
- Proven experience taking strategy through to execution.
- Prior leadership experience hiring, coaching and leading a team to deliver work products.
- 10+ years in partnerships, technology, product, or strategy roles.
- Understanding of AXP BUs, customer segments, membership experiences and card value propositions.
- Proven ability to connect external market shifts to internal product and investment decisions.
- Experience working across Product, Strategy, Innovation, Venture, or Corporate Development organizations.
- Deep curiosity about emerging technologies and evolving business models.
- Exceptional executive communication and prioritization skills.
- Understanding of AI, fintech, commerce platforms, and emerging technology ecosystems.
