Role Description

Amtech is executing an all-in AWS strategy: migrating our flagship Encore ERP to a multi-account, account-per-customer AWS architecture, operating LabelTraxx as a multi-tenant SaaS platform, and retiring legacy private-cloud infrastructure over time. Platform Engineering owns the landing zone, infrastructure as code, and the golden-path tooling that product teams build on, and the reliability of everything that runs on it.

The Manager, Platform Engineering (India) leads the India Cloud and Platform SRE teams: the engineers who build the AWS platform and the engineers who keep it running. You own the people, the delivery, and the day-to-day technical leadership of that group under the guidance of the VP, working alongside the Cloud Architect, who owns platform architecture. The scope spans two engineering disciplines and a direct interface to IT/IS/PE leadership and vendors.

  This is a player-coach role by design: leadership first, hands-on second. Leadership means hiring and building the team, developing engineers, running the operating cadence, and representing Platform Engineering within IT/IS/PE and to partner functions. Hands-on means staying close enough to the code and the incidents to make good calls, review the changes that matter most, and lead incident response in India hours. As the team matures, the balance shifts further toward leadership without leaving the technical work behind.

  You will work daily with the U.S.-based Senior Manager who leads Customer SRE, the Senior SRE who owns the reliability standards both SRE teams operate on, the Sr. Director of Information Security, and the VP. This role is the first people-leadership position in Platform Engineering India.

SCOPE & AUTHORITY

• Leads hiring for the India Cloud and Platform SRE teams in partnership with Talent Acquisition; offers follow Amtech's approval process. The role leads interviews and makes the hiring recommendation for each open India position.

• Owns performance, leveling, and development decisions for direct reports within Amtech's leveling framework.
• Sets sprint priorities and capacity allocation for the India teams within the Platform Engineering roadmap.
• Holds incident command for platform incidents in India hours.
• Runs the architecture review and holds the team to its outcomes; the Cloud Architect approves architecture decisions, and decisions affecting security controls require Information Security sign-off.
• Leads technical evaluation of platform vendors and tooling with the Cloud Architect; recommends spend and contract changes to the VP, who holds approval.
• Participates in the IT/IS/PE leadership team as needed; Platform Engineering's representative in India site leadership forums.

JOB DESCRIPTION

People Leadership

• Lead, hire, and develop the India Cloud and Platform SRE teams, a team that is growing through 2027 with hosted customer count and product engineering headcount and that this role hires into from day one.
• Own performance management, career development, and leveling under Amtech's leveling framework; grow senior engineers into technical leads and future managers.
• Set the operating cadence for the India teams: sprint ceremonies, on-call rotations, triage duty, and the follow-the-sun handoff with the U.S.
• Build a team culture of ownership, blameless postmortems, and written decision-making that holds across time zones.
• Give engineers credit publicly and feedback privately.

Architecture & Technical Strategy

• Deliver the AWS platform roadmap set with the Cloud Architect, who owns architecture: multi-account organization, landing zone, networking, identity, and the account-per-customer Encore tenancy model.
• Plan and deliver Encore-on-AWS environment builds (temporary, production, demo) on the shared golden IaC stack, and LabelTraxx platform work, against the roadmap.
• Run the architecture review: decisions are recorded as ADRs, reviewed with the Senior SRE, and approved by the Cloud Architect. Make sure decisions are made on time and carried through by the team.
• Evaluate and integrate emerging capabilities, including AI-assisted and agentic engineering tooling, within Amtech's AI governance guardrails.

Platform Engineering & Delivery

• Hold the technical bar for infrastructure code: enforce module standards set with the Cloud Architect, review the highest-blast-radius changes, and write code where it unblocks the team.
• Operate and enforce standards for CI/CD (GitHub Actions), progressive delivery, environment promotion, and secrets management.
• Drive automation of environment provisioning so a new hosted customer is a pipeline run, not a project; publish and hit onboarding time targets.
• Own delivery against the Platform Engineering roadmap: sprint commitments, capacity budgets (strategic versus tactical), and the response commitments made to requesters.

Reliability & Operations

• Own delivery of production reliability for the shared platform in India hours, operating on the SLO frameworks, observability architecture (OpenTelemetry, OpenObserve, CloudWatch), and PagerDuty service models set by the Senior SRE.
• Hold authority to deviate from a reliability standard during an active incident, restore the standard when the incident closes, and raise a postmortem item to ratify or revert the change. Propose standard changes to the Senior SRE, who decides; the VP arbitrates.
• Lead major incident response for platform incidents in India hours; own postmortems and the remediation backlog.
• Own patching, backup and restore testing, disaster recovery exercises, and capacity management on a published calendar.
• Extend observability to AI workloads so usage, performance, and spend are visible in the same plane as compute.

Security, Compliance & Cost

• Implement and enforce security architecture with Information Security and the Cloud Architect: IAM boundaries, network segmentation, encryption, and data governance for customer data.
• Ensure the platform satisfies SOC 2 and ISO 27001 obligations by design, with audit evidence generated through automation.
• Drive FinOps outcomes with Finance: tagging governance, right-sizing, Savings Plans coverage, unit cost visibility, and input to the AWS enterprise commit.
• Surface technical and delivery risk to the VP early: sequencing, vendor dependencies, and single points of failure.

AI Competency

• Adopt agentic and AI-assisted engineering workflows for the team within the autonomy tiers, guardrails, and auditability set by Platform Engineering; measure productivity against baselines.
• Apply the validation layers (schema, rules, model-graded, human review) appropriate to each change by blast radius.
• Prevent AI-generated code from degrading platform quality at fleet scale: evaluation harnesses, complexity metrics, and AI-attributed defect tracking.
• Mentor engineers in safe, high-leverage AI usage; enforce data classification policy in all AI-assisted work.

Cross-Functional Leadership

• Partner with the Customer SRE leader so the platform the India team builds and the environments Customer SRE runs evolve together.
• Partner with the Senior SRE on reliability standards: implement and enforce them in India and feed operational learning back.
• Serve as senior technical counterpart to AWS, consulting partners, and third-party providers on funded programs in India hours.
• Report team delivery, reliability, and risk clearly to IT/IS/PE leadership; support integration work for acquisitions.

Ensure knowledge is durable: documentation, runbooks, and deliberate succession planning so no platform capability depends on one person, including you

WORKING HOURS

Core hours are India business hours. The role carries a scheduled overlap window with U.S. leadership for architecture reviews and leadership syncs, set in the team operating cadence. Incident command applies in India hours; weekend paging is P0 only and rotates across the team rather than resting on this role.

 QUALIFICATIONS

 Must have

• Hands-on AWS platform experience in a multi-account environment: landing zones, account vending, IAM, and networking, at a level that lets you review your team's work credibly.
• Strong Terraform and IaC experience: working in a shared module ecosystem with testing and versioning discipline.
• 2+ years leading engineers as a people manager with direct responsibility for hiring, performance, and development, within 12+ years of progressive engineering experience.
• Experience leading production operations under SLOs: on-call design, incident command, postmortems, and observability with OpenTelemetry or equivalent.

Strongly preferred

• Designed AI-assisted or agentic engineering systems with guardrails, autonomy tiers, and measured ROI; L4+ AI competency by industry frameworks.
• Strong software engineering foundation (Python, Go, or similar) and fluency with modern CI/CD (GitHub Actions or equivalent).
• Working command of cloud security architecture and compliance-driven design (SOC 2, ISO 27001).

Preferred

• Track record of building and retaining a high-performing engineering team in a distributed, multi-time-zone organization.
• Communicates decisions in writing clearly enough that executives act on them and engineers execute them without a meeting.
• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related discipline, or equivalent demonstrated skills.
• AWS Certified Solutions Architect Professional or DevOps Engineer Professional.
• Experience with multi-tenant SaaS and account-per-customer tenancy economics.
• Experience architecting and executing large migrations (data center or private cloud to AWS), including ERP-class or other stateful enterprise workloads.
• Experience in a private equity portfolio company, M&A integration, or investor-facing technical diligence.
• Experience building an engineering team in India for a U.S.-headquartered company, including leveling frameworks and retention programs.
• FinOps practice experience: tagging governance, Savings Plans strategy, cost allocation, enterprise commit negotiation.
• Experience establishing AI/LLM platform capabilities or agent-based automation under formal governance.

 SUCCESS IN THE FIRST YEAR 

• Every India Cloud and Platform SRE engineer has a named manager, a leveled role, a development plan, and a clear on-call and triage rotation.
• The golden IaC stack has a documented owner and a succession plan; no platform capability depends on one person.
• New hosted customer environment provisioning time is published and improving quarter over quarter.
• SLO attainment for the shared platform is published monthly and meets target; platform incidents in India hours are led, resolved, and written up to the standard the Senior SRE sets for both SRE teams.
• The AWS enterprise commit is negotiated from a known baseline with FinOps discipline behind it.
