Mainframe System Automation Engineer

We are currently looking for a Mainframe System Automation Engineer to join a global infrastructure and automation initiative within the banking sector. The role focuses on designing, implementing and supporting enterprise-scale monitoring and automation solutions for critical IBM z Systems environments.

You will work within international engineering teams responsible for maintaining high availability, recoverability and operational resilience of key mainframe platforms used across the organization's global technology ecosystem.

The position combines hands-on mainframe automation engineering, production support, incident management and platform optimization, with strong focus on operational stability, automation efficiency and enterprise standards.

Key responsibilities

• Administer and support Mainframe System Automation environments.
• Design, implement and maintain automation and monitoring solutions for IBM z Systems.
• Develop and enhance automation rules and operational workflows.
• Collaborate with global IT and infrastructure teams to gather requirements and deliver automation solutions.
• Provide production support and troubleshooting for mainframe systems and automation platforms.
• Participate in incident, problem and change management processes.
• Ensure delivery in line with global standards, operational procedures and best practices.
• Contribute to operational efficiency initiatives through automation and process optimization.
• Support project activities related to mainframe automation and infrastructure improvements.
• Work closely with stakeholders to deliver scalable and reliable automation solutions.

Requirements

• Strong experience with IBM z Systems / Mainframe environments.
• Hands-on experience with Mainframe automation tools such as OPS/MVS, IBM System Automation or NetView.
• Experience with OPS/MVS will be considered a strong advantage.
• Ability to develop scripts and automation using REXX programming language.
• Understanding of Incident, Problem and Change Management processes.
• Experience providing production support and troubleshooting within enterprise mainframe environments.
• Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively.
• Strong communication skills and very good English proficiency.
• Engineering mindset focused on reliability, automation and operational excellence.

Nice to have

• Knowledge of Confluence, Jira and GitHub.
• Experience working within large-scale enterprise or banking environments.
• Familiarity with monitoring and operational support processes.
• Interest in infrastructure automation and platform resilience initiatives.
