About the role

Anthropic's Policy Campaigns team turns the company's policy priorities into active campaigns: research and polling, messaging, coalitions, paid media, and external execution. We're hiring a Campaign Strategist to develop and execute paid media campaign strategy, manage agencies, and measure the success of our advocacy campaigns in the US and in priority markets abroad.

This is a strategy role. You'll decide what a campaign needs to accomplish, who needs to hear from us, and which messages and tactics will move them. Anthropic works on many policy issues at once, across many markets, and you'll need to understand the full set of issues and find the approach that works across them. You'll direct the agencies that produce and place the work, and bring Policy, Communications, Marketing, Public Affairs, and Legal to agreement on tight legislative timelines.

The role also carries a substantial project management load. You'll run several campaigns at once, across time zones and agencies, and keep each one on schedule and on budget. You'll report to the Head of Public Policy Campaigns.

Key responsibilities

• Design paid and digital campaign strategies for legislative and policy goals, including objectives, audiences, messaging, tactics, phasing, and budget
• Develop campaign messaging and tactics with the Campaigns team, executives, Public Affairs, and Communications, and make sure paid media carries the core message
• Spot where a campaign could conflict with Anthropic's other policy, commercial, or international priorities, and resolve those tensions before launch
• Direct creative and media-buying agencies: set strategy and briefs, scopes and budgets, hold timelines, and hold the work to a high standard
• Run several campaigns at once across time zones and agencies: own the timelines, workplans, budgets, and status reporting, and keep partners in the US and abroad aligned
• Build rapid response capabilities with Policy, Marketing, Legal, and Communications so campaigns can respond to a news hook or legislative moment in days
• Set success measures before launch, report results plainly, and adjust strategy based on what works
• Work cross-functionally to find the stories, validators, and moments that make policy arguments concrete for policymakers and opinion formers

Minimum qualifications

• Experience running digital content and paid media for a corporate affairs team, political campaign, advocacy organization, public affairs firm, or issue campaign, including owning a media budget
• Experience managing creative and media-buying agencies, including briefs, scopes, budgets, and performance reviews
• Experience running campaigns aimed at policymakers, key opinion formers, or other influential audiences
• Experience managing several campaigns or projects at once, with multiple agencies and stakeholders in different time zones
• Experience building campaign reporting in spreadsheets or dashboards

Preferred qualifications

• Experience on state or federal legislative campaigns
• Experience running campaigns inside a large organization or coalition with competing priorities
• Working knowledge of AI safety and technology policy issues
• Experience running campaigns in markets outside the US
• Hands-on familiarity with ad platforms and targeting, such as Meta, LinkedIn, and programmatic buying

The annual compensation range for this role is listed below. 

For sales roles, the range provided is the role’s On Target Earnings ("OTE") range, meaning that the range includes both the sales commissions/sales bonuses target and annual base salary for the role.

Annual Salary:

$265,000—$295,000 USD

Logistics

Minimum education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education, training, and/or experience

Required field of study:  A field relevant to the role as demonstrated through coursework, training, or professional experience

Minimum years of experience: Years of experience required will correlate with the internal job level requirements for the position

Location-based hybrid policy: Currently, we expect all staff to be in one of our offices at least 25% of the time. However, some roles may require more time in our offices.
