Role Description
We are looking for an Assistant / Civil Engineer to join our growing rail design team in London or Bristol. This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career while supporting the delivery of high-profile rail infrastructure projects across the UK.
You will work within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary environment, contributing to complex and rewarding projects in rail as well as sectors including housing and development, local authority, building structures and education. Supported by structured mentoring and professional development, you will help deliver design solutions that meet client, programme, budget and quality requirements while progressing towards Chartered Engineer status.
Role Accountabilities
- Support the delivery of civil and structural design activities across rail and multi-sector projects.
- Prepare design calculations, drawings, specifications, reports and other technical documentation in accordance with company, client and industry standards.
- Contribute to projects delivered within 3D design and BIM environments, using platforms such as AECOSim, Revit and Civil 3D, and work within a Common Data Environment.
- Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to resolve technical challenges and deliver coordinated design solutions.
- Assist in the production and management of project documentation to support programme, budget and quality objectives.
- Participate in site visits and surveys, including within rail environments where required.
- Develop effective working relationships with clients, colleagues and project stakeholders.
- Follow Arcadis systems, procedures and health, safety and welfare requirements, supporting a positive safety culture.
- Actively build technical, professional and project delivery skills through mentoring, training and on-the-job experience.
Qualifications & Experience
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering.
- Student or Graduate membership of ICE or IStructE.
- Experience in civil and/or structural design, ideally gained within a consultancy environment.
- Exposure to the rail sector would be advantageous.
- Working towards Chartered Engineer status with ICE or IStructE.
- Experience using civil engineering design software to prepare technical deliverables.
- Awareness of BIM principles and experience working within a Common Data Environment.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with good planning and organisational abilities.
- Good IT skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office.
- A proactive, collaborative and delivery-focused approach, with a commitment to continuous learning and development.
- Flexibility to travel occasionally within the UK.
