Arm Holdings is a British semiconductor design company headquartered in Cambridge, England, that licenses processor architectures and CPU, GPU and system IP to chipmakers rather than manufacturing chips itself. Founded in 1990 as a joint venture of Acorn Computers, Apple and VLSI Technology, its designs are used in most smartphones and in automotive, IoT, PC and data-centre chips from companies such as Apple, Qualcomm, Samsung and Nvidia. Majority-owned by SoftBank since 2016, it returned to public markets with a Nasdaq listing in 2023 and hires hardware design, software and program management engineers in Cambridge, Bengaluru, Austin and other sites.

Job Overview

Join Arm's Systems IP team as a Staff Implementation Engineer, working on solutions that address AI compute challenges across secure compute, large-screen devices, infrastructure and automotive markets. You will develop physical implementations of Arm solutions, influencing designs to optimise power and performance and delivering implementations ready for tape-out.

Responsibilities

  • Implement Arm solutions through the physical design flow, from RTL to GDSII, including synthesis, floorplanning, place and route, static timing analysis, power analysis and physical verification.
  • Optimise designs for power, performance and area as needed.
  • Collaborate with design teams to influence system microarchitecture and implementation quality.
  • Support chip design partners with their physical implementation work.
  • Develop and deploy silicon implementation techniques and methodologies.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Experience integrating large systems on chip (SoCs), with knowledge of power and physical architecture and design for test.
  • Understanding of synthesis, place and route, clock tree synthesis, constraint development and timing closure, alongside knowledge of Verilog or SystemVerilog and experience writing and validating UPF.
  • Experience with physical implementation tools such as Genus, Innovus, Conformal Low Power, PrimeTime or Tempus, and programming experience with Tcl, Make and Linux shell.
  • Ability to analyse problems, reason through solutions and communicate ideas, results and conclusions clearly as part of a team.

Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience

  • Knowledge of systems architecture, Arm IP and Arm-based SoCs.
  • Interest in AI hardware technology.
  • Programming experience for data processing and presentation.
  • Experience with low-power design techniques, including clock and power gating, voltage and frequency scaling, and retention.
  • Understanding of power delivery and experience of static and dynamic IR-drop analysis.
  • A relevant STEM degree, such as electronics engineering or computer science, or equivalent practical experience.

In Return

You will apply your engineering skills to technologies used in devices and share your ideas with experienced colleagues. The role offers opportunities to develop your technical leadership and influencing skills and build your expertise within the team.

Additional Information

If skilled worker sponsorship is required, Arm will meet costs associated with sponsorship for the employer only. All fees associated with the individual’s application e.g. visa application fee and Immigration Health Surcharge, will be the responsibility of the successful candidate.
