Key Responsibilities

People Leadership & Team Management

• Lead, mentor, and develop a team of 6-15 software engineers across varying experience levels.
• Foster a high-trust, high-accountability team culture aligned with Amazon's Leadership Principles.
• Conduct regular 1:1s, performance reviews, and career development conversations.
• Drive hiring, onboarding, and talent planning to build a resilient engineering organization.
• Navigate team conflicts, resolve blockers, and maintain a healthy and inclusive work environment.

Technical Oversight

• Maintain sufficient technical depth to credibly review system designs, architecture decisions, and engineering trade-offs.
• Partner with Principal Engineers and Tech Leads to guide technical direction without micromanaging implementation.
• Promote engineering excellence through code quality standards, review practices, and operational best practices.
• Stay current with relevant technologies to provide informed guidance - technical depth is valued but not the primary driver of this role.

Customer Engagement & Communication

• Serve as a primary point of contact for customer interactions related to ongoing and new requirements.
• Lead customer-facing discussions, requirement-gathering sessions, and project status briefings.
• Translate complex technical concepts into clear, concise language for non-technical stakeholders.
• Build and maintain strong customer relationships, proactively anticipating customer needs.

Project & Program Delivery

• Own end-to-end delivery of engineering projects - from scoping and planning to execution and launch.
• Define milestones, manage dependencies, track progress, and communicate status to senior leadership.
• Apply PM disciplines: risk management, resource allocation, scope control, and delivery retrospectives.
• Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Operations, and Business teams to align on priorities.

Business Development & Opportunity Identification

• Proactively identify opportunities to expand customer requirements and grow program scope.
• Partner with Business Development and Account teams to propose technical solutions that add customer value.
• Contribute to account growth strategies and participate in customer proposals and presentations.
• Track industry trends and customer signals to surface new service opportunities.

Self-Organisation & Operational Efficiency

• Model strong personal organisation - managing competing priorities with clarity and minimal supervision.
• Structure team workflows, rituals, and tooling to optimise delivery velocity and reduce waste.
• Establish and improve engineering processes, escalation paths, and reporting cadences.

Qualifications

Required

• Education: Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field (or equivalent practical experience).
• Experience: 5+ years in software engineering with at least 2 years in an engineering management or tech lead role.
• People Management: Demonstrated ability to lead, develop, and retain diverse engineering talent.
• Communication: Exceptional written and verbal communication; comfortable presenting to senior leaders and external customers.
• Project Delivery: Hands-on experience driving end-to-end software delivery with PM-level rigour.
• Customer Facing: Experience engaging directly with customers to gather requirements and present solutions.

Preferred

• Experience at a large-scale cloud or technology organisation (e.g., AWS, Azure, GCP, or comparable).
• Familiarity with agile/scrum methodologies and modern engineering delivery frameworks.
• Background in business development or account management activities within an engineering context.
• AWS Certifications (Solutions Architect, Developer, or equivalent).
• PMP, PMI-ACP, or equivalent project management certification.
